you are a doctor there is a new, cheap, harmless test but it generates false positives What is your solution: A) Do more tests over time, then use time series analysis to reduce false positives B) Immediately escalate to the most invasive & high risk tests & treatments available

@PolitlcsUK These greedy money grabbing twats should try working in the private sector….. ya know, the one that generates all the wealth and income for the country. So that we can give inflation smashing pay rises to resident doctors. Bullying W⚓️s

@mononoprix The first sentence is perfectly grammatically “correct” - lack of a comma doesn’t make it incorrect.

People shouting 'ban the kirpan' I disagree You could kill someone with a brick - do we ban DIY? You could kill someone with a stiletto heel - do we ban high heels? You could kill someone with a branch - do we cut down all the trees? You could kill someone with a cast iron frying pan........... The object is not the problem - people are Education Respect Discipline Deterrent That's what we need

@MrBrum43 Because the blade used to carry out the murder is a Sikh blade specifically sanctioned by the government because of Sikhism. This inevitably drags the broader community into the debate.

Why are the Sikh community apologising for a murderer? He didn’t murder in the name of any religion. He murdered because he’s a violent killer. And his family helped him try to cover it up. This isn’t on the Sikh community, this is on one family and several failed police actions.

I know not all months will be like this, but my ISA balance grew £48k in a single month. To put that into comparison, someone would need to earn c.£1m gross in order to earn this Net a month.

@RealBlackIrish What? The father is directly addressing the murderer’s claim that his son was racist towards the killer and that this provoked the attack. The father is refuting this by speaking positively about his son’s character.

After everything he still feels the need to point out that his son was “one of the kindest, most inclusive people you could ever hope to meet”. It makes no sense to me.

Today’s recommendation from the National Screening Committee on prostate cancer screening is deeply disappointing and a real step backwards. I urge the new Health Secretary to reject it and go further - offering targeted screening for the most at-risk men. As I warned last November following the initial advice, prostate cancer is the most common cancer among British men. We are letting down too many men, their families and loved-ones if we don’t push for a wider screening programme that includes all high-risk groups. Prostate cancer can be symptomless early on - as it was in my case. That’s why screening is essential - catching the cancers early when they can be more effectively and successfully treated, like with me. If the advice is to be followed, you could be an older, black man with a family history of prostate cancer and STILL not get routinely screened. Surely, that can’t be right? There are now better screening options and more advanced focused treatments available in parts of the NHS. I benefitted from these and others could too. Yet this seems to have been ignored by the Committee. The new Health Secretary needs to be brave and bold. A more progressive and life-saving policy is within our grasp. Put in place a proper, targeted screening programme that involves all those at higher-risk. Without it, more men will die, and more families will lose a loved-one. As I said in November, this is avoidable and can be done.

@yarwoodwilliam Sleight of hand? The BMA analysis compares all other professions since 2008 to doctors since 2008.

William Yarwood@yarwoodwilliam·
The BMA’s “pay restoration” campaign is built on one giant sleight of hand. They deliberately start their analysis in 2008 because it ignores the huge above-inflation pay rises doctors received before then. In reality, resident doctors’ pay was already around 35% higher in real terms than in 1990. They have also been widely criticised for using a discredited measure of inflation (RPI) to calculate pay erosion, despite it being dropped as a national statistic more than a decade ago. And despite all the rhetoric about “underpaid doctors”, resident doctors have already received multiple inflation-busting pay rises, the NHS is receiving record taxpayer funding, and they enjoy employer pension contributions worth 23.7%, which is nearly double what it is in Australia and around six times the private sector average. At some point, politicians need to stop treating the BMA’s figures as neutral facts and deal with them for what they are - union militancy dressed up as economic analysis.

@stefan_mccauley Technically it's IM + a subspecialty in 6 -8 years. But I think it's jus fundamental differences on how they deliver senior IM support overnight. US - consultant (attending) level care via hospitalists. UK - Med Regs. There also difference in funding etc service provision, hrs
