Another trivia question (useful if on a first date and there’s one of those ‘awkward’ silences).
“Which was the last Premier League team to spend less than £1m in a season buying players?”
@maxrushden@guardian_sport@bglendenning@larssivertsen@JFfutbol Did that PSG-Dortmund game remind you of the their game at home against Newcastle, an xG of around 4 however just constant bad finishing/woodwork with no penalty to bail them out (ironic as they would have been out in the group stages without that draw).
@maxrushden More than happy for the owners to be scrutinised, just think that sometimes the pod conflate the two with the club/city bearing the brunt of it. We were here before and we’ll be here after they’ve sold us, the club is part of the community and still serves it in spite of Saudi.
@Milslacker Right to pull me up - poor choice of words. Always maintained what a brilliant club and city Newcastle is. I think it’s right to point out the human rights record of the owners. That’s all.
@LNER my wife is stuck at Doncaster on the 1800 train to Newcastle, is it likely that this service will be terminated at York with a replacement bus service or will the train continue to NCL once the obstruction is cleared?
@CharlieFelix Can we not enjoy a promising academy player for more than a season at ours before they’re poached? Hodge, Haydon-Wood, Brantingham & Pepper soon. It’ll be Redshaw next.
Understand that Bath are favourites to land Guy Pepper
- Highly-rated around the league and by Borthwick
- Bristol among those to have met him
- Move wouldn't affect Underhill's future at Bath

Piece from presser today. Steve Borthwick forthcoming on potential England call-ups, with Immanuel Feyi-Waboso (👀) & Ethan Roots first to be volunteered.
Greg Fisilau, Tommy Freeman, Henry Slade, Beno Obano, Fin Baxter, Tarek Haffar, Phil Brantingham too telegraph.co.uk/rugby-union/20…
Recording 𝗙𝗢𝗢𝗧𝗕𝗔𝗟𝗟 𝗖𝗟𝗜𝗖𝗛𝗘𝗦 and we want your fully-justified picks for the 𝑷𝒖𝒓𝒆 𝑳𝒂 𝑳𝒊𝒈𝒂 𝑿𝑰 — a team of players inextricably linked with being co-commentated on by Gerry Armstrong, being shouted at by a manager in bad jeans & granted 800 words by @sidlowe
@maxrushden@guardian_sport@PhilippeAuclair@NickyBandini@marklangdon Philippe will say it’s all about the money but three of the scorers were signed/given debuts under Benitez and our captain is the same as the one we had in the Championship, Howe has done a great job.
@danbardell@SkySportsNews Absolutely, we need some pace at the back. Lascelles is a good captain but I would be nervous playing him in the CL if Schar is unavailable. With Burn being 1st choice at LB as well, we have limited options & Dummett should not be getting games at this point.
@NUFC360 hopefully they bring this up tomorrow on #MNF, @GNev2 saying “there’s no way they get CL next season” about Newcastle on the final MNF last season before we played Arsenal. #NUFC
Remember when #NUFC couldn't score?
🔵#MCFC - July 2020, 25 goals
🔵#MCFC - December 2021, 24 goals
👿#MUFC - April 2000, 24 goals
🔴#LFC - December 2018, 22 goals
🔲#NUFC - April 2023, 22 goals
Newcastle's 22 goals last month are tied for fourth-most in Premier League history.
