Potatoes already come perfectly packaged by nature. Individually wrapping them in single-use plastic is pointless waste. Plastic takes hundreds of years to break down and adds to microplastic pollution. You can microwave a loose potato in 5 to 8 minutes. Rinse, poke holes, done. No plastic chemicals migrate into your food, lower cost, zero extra trash. We need less waste and better decisions.
Give A Shit About Nature@giveashitnature

No one is asking for this. Potatoes, already perfectly packaged by nature, now individually wrapped in plastic. Why add plastic to something that doesn’t need it? We need less plastic packaging and more common sense.

Sea level rise much worse than expected Data from tidal gauges shows that actual sea levels worldwide are on average 9.4 to 10.6 inches higher than predicted by models Tens of millions of people thought safe from coastal flooding are at risk of inundation e360.yale.edu/features/sea-l…

@Dank_jetha The range of ecosystems in one place is insane. From alpine to tropical, all in one system. It’s hard to find that kind of diversity anywhere else.

If borders closed tomorrow, most countries couldn’t produce a complete diet. Food security isn’t calories. It’s nutrients, diversity, resilience. We didn’t just globalize food— we engineered dependence into survival. #FoodSecurity #PublicHealth

For every $1 spent protecting nature, $30 is spent destroying it. $7.3 trillion flowed into nature-negative activities in 2023. Only $220 billion went to conservation, and just $23 billion of that came from private investors. The world is not short on money. It’s short on direction. Priorities are just misplaced.

@Oxygen_Token Kinda wild how close this is to human behavior. Same patterns, just different species.

Scientists have confirmed the first documented case of a chimpanzee community splitting into two warring factions based on 30 years of field observations in Uganda’s Kibale National Park. What began in 2015 as unusual avoidance between two clusters of the same group ended with systematic killing. By 2021 the smaller Western faction had stolen and killed 14 infants from the larger Central group. Between 2018 and 2024 they killed an average of one adult male and two infants annually, killing rates that far exceed anything recorded in chimp intergroup conflict. No territory dispute. No resource competition. Researchers traced it back to shifting social relationships following a change in alpha male leadership. Chimpanzee genetics suggest a permanent split like this occurs once every 500 years. This one happened in ours.

@GreenJackR Exactly, it’s not just how we see it. It’s how the system prices it.

@Oxygen_Token we treat biodiversity as expendable rather than essential. redirecting those funds would transform conservation.

@tygrswrld 😂😂 Winters are brutal, but those 8-9 months of perfection make it worth it. Plus, the cold actually kills off a ton of pests, so you don’t get eaten alive by bugs in summer.

For billions of years, life on Earth has flourished with far higher CO₂ levels and warmer climates than today. Humanity didn't just survive those eras — we adapted and advanced. The real watershed moment? Recognising that modest rises in this trace gas (still under 0.05% of the atmosphere) are visibly enhancing life, not endangering it. Water vapor remains the dominant player in Earth's climate system, while CO₂ quietly fuels the greenery we see from space. The climate crisis narrative paints a dying world of fear and scarcity. Satellite reality shows a greener, more resilient biosphere. Hope isn't an abstract concept — it's growing all around us leaf by leaf. We should celebrate the greening not deny it — or in the UN's case, ignore it.

Squirrels only remember the location of about 26% of the acorns they bury. The other 74% they completely forget, and those forgotten ones end up growing into full-grown trees. Turns out squirrels have planted way more forests than any human reforestation program ever has.

@zone6nova I get the point. Uniform is just easier to scale, but that’s also how you end up losing all the diversity.

Global forest loss has slowed, from catastrophic to just very bad. Still, 10.9 million hectares vanish every year. That’s like losing a forest the size of South Korea. Every single year. And while the numbers are trending down, forests aren’t growing back at the same speed they’re falling. Here’s what 10.9 million hectares actually means: • Millions of species losing their only home • River systems drying up downstream • Carbon stored for centuries released in minutes • Indigenous communities erased from maps that never named them The Carbon Brief report calls it progress. Maybe. But tell that to the lungs of the Amazon still on fire. Slowing down isn’t the same as stopping. And stopping isn’t the same as healing. We don’t just need less destruction We need active restoration. At scale. Right now.
