Frozen Four should forever be in warm destinations that people want to travel to. It is so cool seeing so many college hockey fans and people in jerseys/hats walking around Vegas. Need one in Nashville.

@miles_commodore Yep, you don’t. Here in Colorado we decided a long time ago that participation was the primary goal, and we mail a ballot to everyone. You submit it how you like, or go to the polls. Works great, no fraud.

I’m a simple guy so maybe I’m missing something. Absentee ballots should be extremely rare, people should show up in person to vote with ID, Election Day should be a Federal Holiday, and every county should have enough locations to vote. I don’t get it.

You’d be shocked how many incompetent people hold really high level positions in college and pro sports. I’ve said for years, now that I’ve seen behind the curtain that I’d win a natty in baseball and football at most SEC schools because I’d read the newspaper while they play.

Ik was altijd gebuisd voor fysica, dus vroeg ik aan bewegingsanalist Stefan Deckx naar zijn verklaring voor de val van Evenepoel. Hij benadrukt dat het een theorie is, niet de absolute waarheid (mogelijk nog factoren waar we niet van weten). Volgens hem kwam Evenepoel niet ten val door te remmen, maar door een fout in de verdeling van zijn krachten op de fiets. Zijn uitleg vertrekt vanuit een eenvoudig fysisch beeld: renner en fiets vormen samen één massa die normaal vooruit schuift over de weg. In de fysica heet dat translatie: een verplaatsing van punt A naar punt B. Vergelijk het met een verticale en horizontale lijn door een cirkel, waarbij die twee lijnen loodrecht op elkaar staan en door het middelpunt elkaar snijden. Zolang het zwaartepunt stabiel blijft en de krachten goed in evenwicht zijn, blijft die beweging horizontaal. Volgens Deckx ging het mis op het moment dat Evenepoel aanstalten maakte om recht te staan op zijn pedalen. Als een renner rechtstaat, verschuift zijn lichaamsmassa vanzelf wat naar voren. Dat is op zich niet gevaarlijk, op voorwaarde dat hij tegelijk met zijn armen druk blijft zetten op het stuur, een duwende beweging. Die tegendruk compenseert de voorwaartse kracht van benen en romp, en creëert spierspanning op de achterste spierketen, van hoofd tot hielen. Precies dat evenwicht zou bij Evenepoel zijn weggevallen. In plaats van zich met gestrekte armen tegen het stuur af te zetten, zou hij zijn stuur als het ware onder zich hebben getrokken. Daardoor werkten armen, benen en romp niet meer tegengesteld. Het gevolg: een deel van de voorwaartse beweging werd omgezet in een draaiing rond zijn eigen middelpunt. Dat is rotatie. En zodra translatie omslaat in rotatie, ga je niet meer vooruit over de weg, maar overkop. Die theorie wordt volgens het transcript nog versterkt doordat Evenepoel de controle lijkt te verliezen op een klein verhoogje in het wegdek. Dat remt de fiets heel licht af, terwijl het lichaam naar voren blijft gaan. Als de renner dan te weinig druk op het stuur houdt, wordt het voorwaartse kantelmoment groter. Deckx vergelijkt het met een koprol: wie zijn massa naar voren gooit zonder voldoende tegendruk, begint te tollen. In zijn lezing was het dus vooral een timingfout in de coördinatie van armen en benen. De actie van het rechtkomen was groter dan de reactie via het stuur. In Newton-termen: de krachten waren niet meer in balans. De les is volgens hem: wie rechtkomt op de fiets, moet het stuur niet naar zijn knieën toe trekken, maar net van zich wegduwen. Alleen zo blijft de fiets vooruit glijden (translatie) in plaats van voorover te kantelen (rotatie).

@nick_ponton Ya, my guess is they make an exception for hockey, sorta like the proposed exceptions for missions and so forth.

This is a good idea for every sport except hockey. Will have a big impact there as most kids play juniors before going to college. This will eat in to eligibility.

An NCAA proposal would give DI athletes 5 seasons of competition, from the time of their 19th bday or high school graduation (whichever is sooner). No waivers, no redshirts. This is a sensible rule. But the important question is whether it can withstand antitrust challenge.

Love this idea for this reason - it discourages being a 20-year-old freshman, because you’d already be a year into your eligibility.

With Michigan winning it all in basketball Monday night and hockey headed to the Frozen Four, I’ve been thinking about what it took to get here. The adversity that Michigan Athletics was forced to deal with recently caused many to attack the AD publicly and in secret. Being from an era where that type of behavior wasn't tolerated, that never sat well with me. Despite all of the drama swirling about the department, Warde Manuel and his team weathered the storm and guided us to where we are today ... calm waters. Some jumped ship, but for those who stayed ... I think you know the rest. Remember that celebrating banners includes acknowledging the leadership that helped make them possible. Go Blue.
