@adrianmckinty For all SPR's realism (and some of it was good), the Americans died nobly and with last words while the Germans died like the Germans in the comics I read as a kid: "Achtung, Englander, AAARGH." The Americans were given humanity; the Germans weren't.

@JoshPhillipsPhD From reading the synopsis, the book is reasonably academic but fails in objectivity, lured by the fashion for pulling white men off their pedestals. So she rehashes the hoary argument that a man who never went abroad couldn't have had the experience whereas this woman did.

I thought this was sarcasm. It's not sarcasm. "The Real Shakespeare: Emilia Bassano Willoughby" will be released in April. It argues that "Shakespeare was a not a man but a woman: a dark-skinned lady, of Jewish origin from Venice." thecritic.co.uk/the-truth-abou…

@SpikerDarkiss @rachelmillward I don't understand the dates on that calendar. Also, no single Muslim empire held all this territory and other places (e.g. Sicily) were held at one time or another. Also they never conquered the northern coast of Spain. What's the source?

@SWright1steve @CharlotteCGill Please no. I was in Manchester for three days last week. Walked for miles and the only pubs we found outside the city centre were at Old Trafford. And the only place to get a fry-up was Wetherspoons.

@CharlotteCGill London should split from the rest of England and rejoin the EU. New capital in Manchester?

London is the UK CAPITAL Why is it being turned into an Islamic Republic?! I want Union Jacks, cups of tea and cockneys back. I don’t want women NOT wearing hijabs to be the minority in 10 years time. Our country is weak, weak, weak. We can’t even stand up for our own culture.

@AJMacDonaldJr @Tom_Slater_ It advises on non-violent resistance. It seems a stretch to say that Iranians would be perfectly happy with their lot without the ICNC stirring things up.

Southeast Manchester is a desert. No pubs, no cafes, no shops. If you're in Manchester and want a pint, go to the city centre. If you want a full English, the closest one is probably in Liverpool.

@Tom_Slater_ The protests were not organic. They were part of an overall US strategy--a misbegotten strategy--to overthrow the regime...

Hi @BBCWomensHour Today’s piece on misogyny was a classic example of misogyny. You interviewed a cross dressing man on a topic about which he is not qualified to speak. Why didn’t any woman involved with WH call it out for what it really was? You’re cowardice shames you all

What you posted there was a photo from the 70s of two men standing in front of a sign that says "Sissies Unite". They are in Northern Ireland (see the upside down sign). Anyone with a sense of history will understand what that means. If you're able to read upside-down words, you'll get the context which is GAY. Northern Ireland GAYS. I was in Northern Ireland in the 70s and there was no "twams" movement - only transvestites meeting in secret (there was barely a GAY movement, so behind the times were thing in Northern Ireland in those days).

Gosh. Peak revisionism. I’m not straight & my entire youth was spent around LGB people in the 🏳️‍🌈pubs & clubs of London. Yes, there was the occasional transsexual & drag queens, natch. But we didn’t call ourselves “que*r”. We left that to the que*r-bashers…

@prodnose Man Utd players got a £100 bonus (each!) for winning the 1985 FA Cup. Maybe it's gone too far the other way but I'd rather the players got the money than the VP of Social Engagement.

I know it's patently obvious but the crisis in Prem League teams is because they don't play for their clubs. They don't have to play for their fans. They just have to play for television. Money's made, myth propped up. Just a football content service industry.

In 1600, one of Shakespeare’s acting troupe, Will Kemp, quit the company to Morris-dance from London to Norwich. It took him 23 days.

I have always accepted that an English ethnicity exists (see, below, my response when a former advisor to Blair tried to claim otherwise). It is absurd to suggest otherwise. My argument is simply that English identity isn't determined *solely* by ethnicity. And polling shows that this is the position of a clear majority of English people. The ethno-obsessives on this site seem to have no idea just how fringe their position is.

@AthelwulfG @PaulEmbery @Steve_Laws_ English can be an ethnicity (albeit one that excludes Cornish and Cumbrians) as well as a cultural identity. When the British Isles were recolonised after the Ice Age, the Welsh, Scots, Irish, Cumbrians and Cornish came from northern Spain. The English came from the Balkans.

@PaulEmbery @Steve_Laws_ You did. You listed a bunch of people who do exactly that. They claim to be English (an ethnicity) whilst also celebrating their actual ethnicity at every given opportunity.

It's because you have state approved opinions whereas dissidents don't. Whether they post under a real name or an anonymous account is irrelevant. It doesn't change the fact that English is a distinct ethnic group. You can't just pick and choose your ethnicity. It's not a fucking football club.
Paul Embery@PaulEmbery

Why do so many ethno-obsessives on this site operate under fake names? I mean, if they really believed their arguments were mainstream and respectable, why wouldn't they post under their own names? Could it be that they know deep down that their views are seen as extreme by the real mainstream?

@johnsweeneyroar @Nigel_Farage @headlinepg The issue with anything you write about Farage is that your personal opinion of him and his politics will stain your pages. You have made clear your dislike/distrust in your posts on here so any book is likely to just be more of that. You are no longer an unbiased journalist.

I'm writing a book about @Nigel_Farage for @headlinepg. Funnily enough, some of his old associates are blanking me. Is it because after I reported on the killing of a Polish man in Essex in 2016, he said that I had caused him "more misery than any other in 25 years in politics"? So I'm asking the Great British public to lend me a hand because NF is seeking to be our lord and master. Were you at school with NF? Worked with him in the City when he was a tin trader? Met him through politics? Did you drive the pink Cadillac hired by Nathan Gill who last year got ten years for taking bribes from a Russian spy? Do get in touch: johnsweeney.co.uk
