Anyone remember Sara Gideon? She was ahead in every poll and supposed to end Sen. Susan Collins’ political career. Collins won her 2020 election by 8.6 percentage points. Count me skeptical that Graham Platner is leading Collins by 9 points in Maine—before his latest scandal.

@EveryF_ingTime @SarahIronside6 I don’t disagree that her gender was a factor but I think part of it was that she didn’t win a primary. So it felt it was just being handed to her. Biden is really to blame. If he doesn’t insist on running we get to hold a primary, if Kamala wins she probably beats Trump easily.

@wellifihaveto @SarahIronside6 Yes because in 2020 Gideon was seen as exactly the same as Collins but with a D next to her name. Collins still had her moderate illusion. So yeah they voted for Collins who had seniority in the Senate. Platner is seen as an outsider who wants to break the system.

@TopEnz @SarahIronside6 Except his entire life he has been registered Democrat. He attended the Women’s March in 2016, he voted for Hillary. Half of Democrats in Maine have voted for Susan Collins at some point. It’s why shes a 30 year incumbent in a Blue state.
