Ah c'mon, you're not fooling anyone. I found the original photo... before y'all edited it.

Earth@earthcurated
NOT FLAT…

@TheWesternOb @LearnToToad We've had a pretty good discussion in the replies. Sometimes you have to post not for the benefit of the OP, but for the benefit of those watching.
English

@ScottCircuitguy @LearnToToad Don’t even bother trying to explain to these fucking conspiracy theory retards.
English

Someone want to tell me how the Sun, which is the light source, is behind the Earth here, yet the visible side of the Earth is lit up like it's fucking day time? Is it all fake and gay?

@AlbatroxRS @analyst_404 @LearnToToad My dad still complains about the Hasselblads the Apollo missions left on the moon. (He literally mentioned it a couple days ago again.)
English

@analyst_404 @ScottCircuitguy @LearnToToad dont worry it seems they got an Nikon z9 aboard lets see if the sensor like cosmic radiation.
English

Yup. Lenses are expensive. Specialised lenses like this one (Wide angle zoom) are really expensive. I never had the luxury of owning a lens that cost more than $200, though. My dad had a couple nice ones I could borrow. I don't think he ever paid even $1000 for a lens, though. Later in life I worked in TV production for a while. Those crazy sports lenses can easily get well into five digits.
English

@shreyash_99 @ScottCircuitguy @MESportsOps @LearnToToad What is wrong with you people. The Nikon 14-24 cost the same as a respectable set of golf clubs. You could feed a tiny island nation for a year with price of a few lenses.
English

@analyst_404 @AlbatroxRS @LearnToToad "Lower noise" while the image sensor is being bombarded by cosmic rays. I've heard that astronauts, when outside the Van Allen Belt, will see flashes in their vision with their eyes closed.
English

@AlbatroxRS @ScottCircuitguy @LearnToToad I get it's a workhorse, but man, some higher res, lower noise images would've been lovely
English

@analyst_404 @LearnToToad I looked it up because I was curious. One of the engines on this launch was used on 15 Shuttle missions between 1998 and 2011. But, every engine on this launch had at least one component from the first shuttle launch in 1981.
English

@analyst_404 @LearnToToad Now ask how old the rocket engines they used were.

My camera knowledge pretty much stops at the end of the film era, but... I would say yes. F stops indicate the size of hole the light has to pass through. Bigger holes are lower F numbers and they let more light through. But, smaller holes focus better. If you ever made a pinhole camera, you know you don't even have to focus it. If the hole is tiny, everything is in focus. Because the corners of the film frame (or the sensor) are slightly farther from the lens than the centre, it would make sense that a smaller aperture would keep the corners in better focus. This will be more noticeable when using cheap lenses. Good lenses will do things to compensate for this. I have no personal knowledge of why the photographer of this image used F4 instead of F2.8. Just a lot of camera nerdery here. 😜
English

@ScottCircuitguy @shreyash_99 @MESportsOps @LearnToToad Excuse my ignorance, when it says f4 is sharper in corners, I assume that’s the actual corners of the image?
English

@shreyash_99 @MESportsOps @kybaskerville @LearnToToad Maybe depth of field wasn't quite enough for the earth and starts?
English

@ScottCircuitguy @MESportsOps @kybaskerville @LearnToToad The only curious thing is them stopping down to F/4. I'm wondering why they wouldn't use 2.8. Don't see a reason TBH. Would have bought them a full stop
English

@BowTiedDetektiv I know, right? I haven't really done any "real" photography since the film days. The fastest film I ever used was 3200.
English

That is wildly high ISO, but probably necessary or close to necessary for that sort of shot if the sun isn't where it would ideally need to be.
Anything over 1600 ISO, and the image on my old Rebel T3 gets noise.😂
circuitguy@ScottCircuitguy
@LearnToToad ISO 51200, F4, 1/4 second exposure. Try those same settings at night on the earth and compare.
English

Oh, I'm not even offended by the nerd accusation. I proudly wear that for some subjects. I just didn't realise ISO/Aperture/Shutter Speed was specialised knowledge. Maybe it's just an age thing... In high school photography class we were required to log those settings for each photo we took. Digital guys today have it so easy with them being logged automatically in the metadata of the image itself.
English

@ScottCircuitguy @kybaskerville @LearnToToad Nothing about what you said is standard to anyone who doesn’t dabble in photography or beyond with that said it didn’t deserve for you to have to be called a nerd either
English

@kybaskerville @LearnToToad I didn't realise standard camera knowledge was "nerd" but those are appropriate settings for taking pictures of things in extremely low light.
English

@ScottCircuitguy @LearnToToad For this of us who don’t speak nerd?
English

@carl_xtra @VladTheInflator Exactly. Vydia filed a false claim. The only way this stops is if it becomes unprofitable to do it. There need to be consequences for Vydia.
English

@VladTheInflator Vydia withdrew the claims after backlash, but we have a serious problem with small private individuals being steamrolled by corporates moving on them and zero support from youtube gatekeeper and paymasters. It's truly disgusting
English

@Schnitzer_WWIII @EricRStPierre I'm a white liberal? Hah! You know nothing about me. It's also not wrong. You'd have to spend your whole life in downtown Toronto to think that.
English

Those aren't for the Ruger 10/22. Because Ruger came out with a "Pistol" version of the 10/22, the RCMP determined that any >10 round mag that fits the 10/22 is prohib. The Butler Creek mag for a 10/22 was extremely popular up until then. It's only an RCMP interpretation. You could probably win in court if you were ever charged with just that. But, it would cost you.
English

@ScottCircuitguy @Martyupnorth You mean the ones hanging in the cabinet at a Canadian Tire near you? canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/butler-…
English

@MansplainStuff @Martyupnorth No it's not. We lost our Butler Creek mags at the very leading edge of this whole mess.
English

@Martyupnorth Is this a good time to point out that the Ruger 10/22 is apparently invisible to the anti-gunners?
Lots of aftermarket stuff for them too.
English

@EricRStPierre @Schnitzer_WWIII Be honest. There never has been a single Canadian culture. Alberta is not Ontario and Ontario is not Quebec and Quebec is not Newfoundland and none of those are First Nations. We are a patchwork of very different cultures.
English

@Schnitzer_WWIII Canadian as distinct national culture is quickly going the way of the dodo.
The Liberals have all but ensured that to be the case.
