🌍✨ Celebrating International Skull Base Surgery Day – June 4 ✨🌍 Today, we honor the pioneering spirit and groundbreaking contributions of two legends in medicine: Harvey Cushing, the renowned American neurosurgeon, and Oskar Hirsch, the visionary Viennese otolaryngologist. On June 4, 1910, both independently performed their first submucous transseptal variation of the transsphenoidal approach, marking a monumental leap in the evolution of skull base surgery. Their innovative techniques, the sublabial approach championed by Cushing and the endonasal route mastered by Hirsch, revolutionized access to the pituitary and parasellar region through the transnasal transsphenoidal approach. These techniques have since become the cornerstone of modern transsphenoidal surgery, shaping the future of skull base surgery and improving countless lives. This day serves as a tribute not only to these pioneers but also to the interdisciplinary and international collaboration that has propelled advancements in the field. It’s a reminder of how far we’ve come and an inspiration for future innovations in the care of complex skull base conditions. 🧠💡 Let us celebrate the progress and honor the legacy of Cushing and Hirsch as we continue to innovate, collaborate, and push the boundaries of what’s possible in skull base surgery. #SkullBaseSurgeryDay #MedicalInnovation #GlobalHealth #Neurosurgery #Otolaryngology #SurgicalPioneers #Cushing #Hirsch @NeuroSurgeryNJ @CBMCNJ @pituitaryorg @Pituitary_org @PituitarySoc @PituitaryWNews @NASBSorg @AANSNeuro @AANSNeurosurg @TheJNS @CNS_Update @DrZNeurosurgery @UofUNeurosurg @NYUneurosurgery @GarniBDarian @JamieVanGompel @jacquesmorcosmd @SC_Froelich @ManishKAghi @drvijay_agarwal @ShrivastavaMD @ladyspinedoc @RUNeurosurgery @drRMP10 @drjfm_stanford @PerisCelda @amirdehdashti @Pituitary_Surg @davidgudismd @PrevedelloDanny @neurosurgatlas @DoctorZada @AaronCohenGadol @EmorySkullBase @SkullBaseDocs @skullbasedoc @SkullBase_doc @DrBaskaya @ASamyYoussef

There are 2 big mistakes in life: 1. Worrying about what other people think about you. 2. Believing that other people think about you in the first place. Harsh Truth: Most people don’t care about you. The Spotlight Effect says that we overestimate the degree to which other people are noticing our actions or behaviors. This is liberating—stop worrying about what others think, do you, and live according to your values.

Many people won't attempt something unless they can find an example of someone else who is already doing it. Rely on this type of thinking too much and you'll never do anything interesting. Your path through life is unique. It is important to extract lessons from the experiences of others, but you can't wait for a perfect example to take action. You are the example.

Offering Interviews only to candidates who had signaled the program would reduce the chances for IMGs because it’s limiting them to 25 programs only, while IMGs would apply to all the programs 115 to try to maximize their chances! There must be a better way!#NeurosurgeryMatch2023

Endnote is a powerful reference and citation manager. But it costs $275. Zotero is equally powerful and costs $0. But many academics are stuck with Endnote. Here's how you can migrate your Endnote library to Zotero (and save money). A step-by-step tutorial with visuals:

Judging people by their current abilities masks their future potential. Progress depends less on talent than motivation and opportunity. Growth is not about the natural gifts you have—it's about the character you build. Introducing my new book: adamgrant.net/HiddenPotential

I’m extremely honored to match into neurosurgery. It feels so surreal. I'm very grateful for my mentors, LoR writers, family, and friends who have supported me along the way. I couldn’t have done this without your support. #nrmp #match2023
