@NebGradDubDub @StandardGrain @usda_nass Why doesn’t NASS also acquire data from private sources(Deere, CNH, satellite sources etc..) that traders buy from? Compare to survey results or pass along to farmers.

@StandardGrain @usda_nass NASS isn't needed. They are just setting a benchmark that trading houses are now using to trade a side that is reflected in the planting data the traders acquire from John Deere, CNH, ect

@brim006 Toured the state capitol as an elementary student and Minnesota historical society had a display of possible state boundaries when statehood was being discussed. This Argus Leader article lays it out. argusleader.com/story/davidmon…

Sun has to now burn the fog off before it can burn the frost off. Slow & safe morning.

Good morning from the frosty beet field. Couple more shifts to finish this now muddy 2025 harvest.

@NickHorob Reporter just searching keywords “autonomous” and “tractor” and linking whatever comes up. Or not reporter but AI.

@Snake_redriver In the original article about the Family Farms “buy”, it mentions a 2016 ship date. Odd to see that link in a 2025 article that states that it was a recent purchase.

Is Family Farms Group still around? I never quite understood the buy-in model or the philosophy of selling land to free up equity to rent more. But some of their ideas made sense. Group buying and selling (albeit this is easier said than done), domain experts to help with issues, and overall mastermind groups.

With the addition of Geneva, the Minnesota map is getting more full. Two more stations are coming online in Minnesota this week. Another in North Dakota with the @NDAWNmesonet Center station getting an upgrade. Busy week for us. #ndwx #mnwx

Any no-till or min-till sugar beets growers out there? $15-22/acre if you did it last year in 2024. Just need to share some data to prove it. In-season cultivation is fine. They need planting, fert, yield, and soil test records at the least. DM me if interested and share it out!

Here is a mockup of a map based crop planner. Do you find it useful to have your crop plan in a visual format? What details do you need to make a map like this useful for your operation?

@CedricCitrowske Never needed ID but the grain business is usually fairly personal from the grain buyer to office staff cutting checks. Yes that’s changing to phone calls & apps. Not that caller ID can’t be spoofed but if staff questioned an interaction they could always have you pickup a check.

Is it common for grain elevators to have no personal ID or security checks when selling grain? The other week, I called a 3-letter co-op to sell a small amount of grain. They just asked for my name, told me how many bushels I had, and sold it—no PIN, no security question, no text confirmation. It felt way too easy. In theory, anyone could call, ask about someone else's bushels, and sell them without permission. It seems like there should be more security to prevent this. Is this just how it works everywhere?
