Creepy Crawlies WIP (Acorn Electron). Experimenting with the direction of my game. I'm thinking the farmer needs to protect his garden from worms/caterpillars and other creepy crawlies and collect all crops/fruits before the invaders slowly eat them all 🤔

@omsandin Did you ever play the Repton games on the BBC Micro and Acorn Electron? Repton was a Boulderdash clone, and the first game I ever played, hence my fondness for this type of game.

@explorersofai As a teacher I can tell you this is very evident at all levels of education now. It's bad, really bad. Only a small percentage are even capable of critical thought now.

I finally realized that a lot of people are not using their brains to think anymore. The reason is AI. Problems that were easy to solve are now being passed on to AI. Super complicated workflows are being created for no logical reason. What was free and effective before now costs at least 1M tokens. Oh well.

@oldyzach Same result 😥 I get to the title screen and it flickers like crazy. I can get to the main menu but it's all corrupted and nothing is selectable. I guess I'll do some troubleshooting...

@oldyzach I've installed this a couple of times but never got it to run. I can't remember exactly what the error was, but it's a shame because I really want to play it as I didn't play it back in the day. I think I'll give it another shot...

Voxels come with some interesting 4D-like problems. You can't just blend voxels together for the equivalent of mip mapping for 2d textures without the insides of the object becoming visible. (proof: a two voxel thick slab with a red front and a blue back. Can't downsample that!) (well ok there might be anisotropic solutions)

My thoughts after 70+ hours of Crimson Desert. I knew right away that journalists would not rate this game as high as it deserves. If you're given limited time and need to power through a game like this to review it for your boss, you will resent it. In fact, I resented it after the first couple hours. But once I began to understand the systems, adjust to the controls and get a bit more comfortable with the game, it quickly became something I could not put down. I was thinking about Crimson Desert 24/7. Truthfully, the only real pain points of this game are the controls and systems and occasional clunkiness. But once you get some hours in, all of that goes away and you're left with a truly remarkable experience. No game before this has matched this level of wonder and exploration and this level of pure scale, while also simply being FUN to play. At first I thought that there was no way that they could cram all of these systems and mechanics into one game and make it feel satisfying and cohesive, but they somehow pulled it off. Take your time with Crimson Desert, be patient and intentional with your time with the game, and you'll be rewarded handsomely. 🌩️

The only reason we even got Fallout is because a bunch of RPG loving nerds worked after hours to make something special. They ran on nothing but Pizza and Soda in those early days because they loved what they were doing and were doing something special. We need those days back.

@n050up4u1 @DK_Able You are correct. They used to be called 'pokes'. They just change the Hexadecimal values, like changing a 3 into 100 for example, to give you 100 lives.

@DK_Able same way a trainer works. locking memory parameters or forcing specific states via hex edits. You could see this a bit more if you used a game shark on the ps1 if not mistaken. on PC using emulators you can do the same thing. Someone correct me if im wrong.

Game genie was one form of technology that I simply do not understand how it worked.

@mweis200 @stoopidmates @tilehopper Okay, you clearly have no idea how a game engine works. Real-time cinematics ≠ gameplay. You use higher-def models and higher-quality modes in general because frame rate doesn’t matter as much in cinematic sequences—in fact, most of them are locked at 30 FPS, especially on PS5.

The fact that Kojima Productions can achieve this level of detail with Unreal’s Metahuman techstack, specialized scanning equipment, and understanding of the cinematic medium WITHOUT having to rely on 2 RTX 5090s only proves the AI-infected techbros has lost their capability.
