@PaulaRe48195653 @MsLutzmann @PaulaRe48195653 , it's not the ATA that would have to figure out where to find space for more classes if public education gets proper funding to hire additional teachers. It's the school boards that would have to figure it out. Trust me, the boards would figure it out!

@MsLutzmann I don’t disagree but unless the ATA has a place to temporarily teach the kids until more schools are built the kids will suffer and we should all remember how the kids were affected by the Covid lockdowns .

@SusanVuka @AmandaChapman Using the 2025-26 numbers, even if you subtract $4M from O&M, CBE still gets more than $860/ student from the School Space Allocation, which is more than charter schools get just from the Student Allocation Rate alone. So while the calculation is different, it still favours CBE.

@_Andrew_Chu_ @AmandaChapman And the number one issue is that this this opaque and flawed calculation leads to larger class sizes at public schools only. I do not understand why chartered and private schools can cap their class sizes at any size they want with no financial penalty. Let's level the rules.

@_Andrew_Chu_ @AmandaChapman The calculation is so complex that it's obfuscating. Taxpayers deserve transparency. And a major issue is that the Province has used this tool to reject requests for new schools in new communities, and to force public school boards to close schools in established communities.

@_Andrew_Chu_ @AmandaChapman This is so complex that it's obfuscating. Bottom line: public school boards and charter boards are being treated differently. The GoA clawed back $4 million from the CBE last year for "half empty" schools that were actually full. P69 of funding manual explicitly exempts charters.

@SusanVuka @AmandaChapman While Applicable Rate is higher for the Student Allocation component for charter schools, charter schools are not eligible for the School Space Allocation which is multiplied by square meters of utilized or underutilized space. Overall O&M Grant does not indicate clear advantage.

@_Andrew_Chu_ @AmandaChapman @_Andrew_Chu_ and @AmandaChapman, ONLY public schools in Alberta have operational funding clawed back by provincial government when class sizes fall below a threshold set by the provincial government, which varies from school to school. Chartered and private schools do not.

@AmandaChapman Then why did CBE ask for ZERO new schools in Year 1 of the 2023-2024 Capital Plan, which could have been in the pipeline today? Also, all divisional public schools can control class sizes under s.10 of the Education Act. x.com/_Andrew_Chu_/s…
Andrew Chu@_Andrew_Chu_

@KathleenGanley It's actually the job of the divisional school boards in cooperation with municipalities to plan for the necessary infrastructure. CBE asked for ZERO new schools last year #ABLeg:

It was an honour to present CBE school trustee @SusanVuka with a Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal on behalf of @shoffmanAB for Susan's outstanding commitment to public education and volunteerism. Congratulations on this well-deserved recognition. #yyccbe #yycedu #ableg

A safe space for children fleeing the war in Ukraine youtu.be/Ow8pqF235y8 via @YouTube The situation continues to deteriorate. More than 4.2 M people—half of them children—have already fled the country, with thousands more leaving every day. I'm a proud monthly donor to UNICEF

Bike theft in #Calgary is not just an annoying crime that results in the loss of property; it impacts the choices we make about personal mobility. Read about it on page 6 of the @HillhurstSunny Oct Voice. #yycbike 1/6 static1.squarespace.com/static/588e65d…

@SusanVuka @elledotelliott @yycbe @yyCBEdu @UsihChristopher Ms. Vukadinovic, thank you for the attention. I have read that infopage before. The section listing the reasons not to install HEPA filters is wrong. If you are willing, I’d love to have a phone call to give you my P. Eng. (mechanical) opinion on it.

So you have checked every school in your ward to confirm their HVAC meet/exceed APEGA recommendations? Please provide material evidence. @kprather88 @schill_dawg @jvipondmd @SOSAlberta @CleanAirCrewOrg @JimRosenthal4 @GosiaGasperoPhD @APEGA_AB twitter.com/SusanVuka/stat…

@elledotelliott @yycbe @yyCBEdu @UsihChristopher We do have ventilation and filtration in CBE schools. I am so proud of our CBE Facilities team and proud that CBE and the provincial government invested in this critical infrastructure. It looks like other schools boards and other provincial governments didn't. They should have.
