@JGourd7 @tms1967 @SouthernRailUK @northernassist @RAIL I keep forgetting we live in a time when people don’t get the answer they like, they assume it’s all made up. The lack of critical thinking is astounding. You’ve been told where to go look and ask officially. Or do you think we just share controlled documents for fun?

What’s this? Train that has no crew onboard yet, but doors released so that passengers can board 25 minutes before departure time! Well done @SouthernRailUK for doing the right thing. Why @northernassist and some other operators can’t do this is a mystery! @RAIL

@BrokenBritain_7 @ChimeWhistle Can tell you don’t understand how it works. The union is made for by its members. The leadership is elected to represent us. They negotiate on what we ask for. If those negotiations fail then they come back to us to ballot for strike.

@ChimeWhistle Nothing like democracy - the union telling the members they think there should be a strike!

@TheDriverG @SimonCalder Forgive me, I am not coming from nowhere on this in terms of experience and although long retired have recently gone out of my way in my travels to hear what current staff have to say.

Talking to the new leader of the train drivers’ union, Aslef: Dave Calfe. He says: "No to driver-only operation – every train should have a 2nd safety-critical person.” "Open-access rail firms [Lumo, Grand Central and Hull Trains] should be nationalised." independent.co.uk/travel/news-an…

@SimonCalder The question then is whether, if the second person is not available on the day, must their trains be cancelled? Insisting that the guard works the doors is the RMT trying to preserve its industrial muscle.

@SarahSanders58 @Elwick70 @SuzanneEvans1 Sarah do you even know how they complete the list? I’ll give you a clue they don’t use items like tescos finest bread they will use the basic no frills range even you can understand that? It would be moronic to use luxury items.

@TheDriverG @prazebeeble Here this is how I know it to be, a locomotive isn’t a train unless it’s pulling a load, because the train of coaches/trucks ect ect, IS the train. But obviously I can always be wrong!! I just wanted to show my reasonings I guess

@paultrowntree @ChimeWhistle @gceccles @diana_blamires Bedford Bletchley services have everything to do with it being the only part of the route already in existence. Hence why 196s have been moved from LNWR to chiltern and the fact that LnWR who will run the biggest section of route do not have a DOO agreement.

@paultrowntree @ChimeWhistle @gceccles @diana_blamires Elizabeth line is an extension of DOO services that already exist. Battersea is London Underground and is separate. If you saw the internal backlash when southern extended DOO in 2016 you’d understand there has been a major policy change.

@ChimeWhistle @TheDriverG @gceccles @diana_blamires I recall much the same about DOO on Thameslink between Three Bridges and Brighton, until they did. They also accepted DOO on the Elizabeth Line which only opened three and a bit years ago and both ASLEF & RMT drivers operate to Battersea on DOO, which only opened five years ago.

@gceccles @diana_blamires ASLEF will not be agreeing anyone. Times have changed Graham. Indeed scotrail recently had to change operating practices with their DOO services. And only a fool would suggest a driver on their own after the recent LNeR incident.

@diana_blamires It’s a ritual dance the industry goes through Diana. The Unions believe DOO is unsafe, despite 40 odd % of the present services being DOO. Eventually, RMT give in and ASLEF negotiate a bit more money for their Drivers. Until the next time.

@philatrail Personally I’d leave it up to the team on the ground to investigate and not speculate even if Gareth is an expert he’s not actually there.

@CatoEdwards @JohnyHelzapopin @tomhfh Yeah that was 30 years ago. The Tories as ever were deliberately running it into the ground to make the case for privatising it and selling it to their friends. Intercity was expected to self dunces when France etc had 70% subsidised.

It’s going to be so sad when the government takes over Great Western Railways. Easily the classiest, best looking trains on the network. Soon this elegant livery will be replaced by the tacky eurovision-britpop style GBR branding. What a downgrade.

@dave43law Reform and Farage only “work” in opposition as has been proven when they won anything they have no idea what to do. So I would not be surprised if Farage is deliberately trying to sabotage his own party to stop them winning. Because if they do win they will lose massively after.

A fascinating 24hrs Laila is by far the most talented of the Reform cohort - the talent pool is not very deep. Farage appears to have made a major error - he as the unelected Leader of the Party has imposed the candidate with no discussion on his electorate - that is being openly questioned online. - does he expect the racist cohort within Reform to accept a Muslim candidate when all they scream about is take over and Londistan - likely not happening watching feedback - does he seriously think that a clearly westernised Muslim woman, who is divorced and remarried to an American Christian who works it seems for Palantir and advocates for mass removals will appeal to the Muslim community? Margins in elections are narrow and the negativity already displayed will cost Reform - so much so there are accounts already demanding the Tories withdraw so as to 'unite the right'

@GordonDudman @ChimeWhistle @TheDriverG @gceccles Amongst all the union cheering of the demise of franchises, they seem to have forgotten that a private company that will go bust with prolonged strike action can be much easier to negotiate with than civil servants and Quango servants who have no such worries.

@ChimeWhistle @TheDriverG @gceccles @GordonDudman Yes but does ASLEF winning this mean they give up DOO or the Chiltern drivers get a payrise as I recall happened with extension of DOO from Three Bridges to Brighton? ASLEF are still a craft union and far less politicised than RMT.

@gceccles @GordonDudman @paultrowntree @ChimeWhistle The play is quite simple. No new DOO. As this is a new route not an existing one there’s no remit for it to be DOO. WMR who will be jointly operating the route have guards on all trains. Scotrail have agreed this on their newly electrified routes which had guards on diesels.

@TheDriverG For some reason, and despite us following each other, X won’t let me respond to you on your point about DOO safety and giving evidence. If this sends OK, I’ll respond in a new thread.
