figured it out. just had to swap the pairs for Tx/Rx on one side lmaoo i guess auto polarity isn’t a thing on these converters?

DHCP isn't always handled by the gateway. I would expect the device to work it's way up the OSI. Like ARP, then ICMP, then DHCP. The host could also be suffering from DHCP blindness, for any number of reasons, but that doesn't mean a network isn't reachable(not the case here). Another one, not relevant to this situation as well, is sticky MACs/port security that could make an operator think the network isn't available when it's really a later 2 issue. I would be curious to see what the traffic looks like when the pairs were reversed.

@jmadincea sure—tester is a netscout onetouch AT; 100BASE-T/TX converters are by innomaker; SPE cable was custom made but it’s literally just shrink wrap over 2 copper wires twisted together + ferrules crimped on the ends

@TracketPacer May I suggest rolling the pair for the slave side connection? Knowing you, you have already sorted this out
