🇩🇪 German Chancellor: Iran Is Humiliating the United States German Chancellor Friedrich Merz offered an unusually blunt rebuke of U.S. strategy Monday, saying Iran’s leadership is humiliating Washington, drawing American envoys to Islamabad and sending them home empty-handed, Reuters reports. “The Iranians are obviously very skilled at negotiating, or rather, very skilful at not negotiating, letting the Americans travel to Islamabad and then leave again without any result,” Merz said during a talk to students in the town of Marsberg. “An entire nation is being humiliated by the Iranian leadership, especially by these so-called Revolutionary Guards.” Merz said he does not see what exit strategy the U.S. is pursuing, drawing comparisons to past military debacles in Afghanistan and Iraq.  He said if he had known the war would drag on this badly, “I would have told him even more emphatically” — referring to Trump — that he opposed it. Merz also said the Strait of Hormuz has been at least partially mined, and announced that Germany and Europe have offered to send minesweepers to help clear it.  He said the conflict is costing Germany “a lot of money, a lot of taxpayers’ money and a lot of economic strength.“

@havivrettiggur The "Iran Deal" left the regime empowered and flush with cash to arm themselves, Hezbollah, Hamas and the Houthis to the teeth whilst repressing their own population more than ever. It was a disaster which led us to where we are now.

This is probably wrong. Almost every meaningful restriction of the Iran deal would have "sunset" by now, so the war would probably have happened anyway. Yes, kids, under the terms of the deal, limits on ballistic missile development, limits on numbers of centrifuges, on advanced centrifuge R&D, on nuclear-related imports and lots, lots more, including UN oversight itself that ensured that what remained would be adhered too -- would all have been lifted by now. The deal wasn't stopping anything. It was arming Iran to the teeth conventionally and kicking the nuclear can down the road.

Because the deal itself is the problem. Even enrichment purity level restrictions have a sunset in the deal - so legitimately enriching to weapons grade is just a matter of waiting. Renewing the deal doesn't fix that, it guarantees it. And because I know who the ayatollahs are and what they want. And because my life and the lives of my children depend on this point, something that wasn't true about the people taking this risk.

I disagree on both counts. There are no "moderate voices" in the Iranian regime. Only the IRGC beneath a veneer of powerless apparatchiks sent to negotiate with the West to hide the fact of IRGC dominance. (There are countless moderate, peace-loving Iranians, of course. But the power centers of the regime are inhabited by the people who built Hezbollah and armed the Houthis.) And none of those sunsets would have been addressed today. Why would the Iranians agree to anyone changing the deal? They kept their part, and they'd demand the West keeps theirs.

The only narrative that makes sense to me is that someone with back-end access to X is just messing with us. The post deletion narrative does not make sense. The publicly accessible X client API is rate limited. He wouldn't be able to delete millions of posts last night.

The idea that this account had posted a huge number of names in waiting for some event that one of them would become relevant and then suddenly deleted all of them goes against how X works. No grok info on the account leads me to believe it is either someone with backdoor access or it's true that the name of the shooter is the only post the account ever made. If the latter, just the name post alone would be a one in millions coincidence. But the profile in the account has the name of the NASA employee. And the banner links the account to the EU government time travel website focusing on simulation theory. The simultaneous probability of all of these things occurring together is equivalent to the individual probabilities multiplied distributively. I.e. three one in millions chances all occurring together. Either someone with back-end access to X is messing with us, Cole Allen is a preprogrammed mkultra asset, we exist in a simulation, or something even more science fictiony.

It's obvious that pulling out of the Iran Deal was a catastrophic decision by Trump. Yet that decision got far less media and political scrutiny than the Deal itself.
