@sant3834_kumar And for the SLES fans out there, it is probably roughly about as close as Red Hat Enterprise.
English

@sant3834_kumar Generally, these don't qualify:
Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora, Arch Linux, openSUSE, Alpine Linux, Linux Mint, Manjaro, Gentoo, Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES), NixOS (not even remotely close)
Of these, RHEL is no doubt the closest.
English

@stuckAgainDev @sant3834_kumar Linux actually doesn't qualify anyway. The Unix certification requires it to be a full operating system, which Linux itself is not.
English

@sant3834_kumar They are just stingy 😅
They don't want to pay "the open group" for certified Unix system😅 (although there are many other complications present)

@RawChickenBeast @david_nix @jonathan_wilke Also, your terminal is running in a GUI framework. So you are by definition introducing another layer and more latency.
Bad UIs can definitely be bloated and heavy. But a good UI can outperform a terminal any day at an equivalent task.
English

@RawChickenBeast @david_nix @jonathan_wilke Well, of course, with the exception of being able to render an entire frame efficiently. At the end of the day, while the terminal UI itself might be placing characters into the actual shell is not.
You also do, by definition, have less flexibility in what you render....
English

@WindowsLatest Do you guys understand anything at a technical level? I'm reading through a lot of posts and it seems like maybe you don't and you just spit the same crap that people on Reddit say without any real understanding of a technical level of what any of the frameworks actually do...

Microsoft is finally trying to kill Windows 11’s web app slop by encouraging developers to build native apps using WinUI 🥳
At Build 2026, Microsoft pushed developers to build native Windows apps using WinUI, and this matters more than it sounds.
For years, Windows has felt slower and messier because too many experiences leaned on web wrappers, React Native, Electron, or WebView2-style layers. Even parts of the Windows 11 Start menu used React Native, including the Recommended section.
Now Microsoft says WinUI is the production platform for Windows apps, and it has “no intention” of building another UI framework. It’s even dropping the WinUI 3 branding and calling it just WinUI to make the commitment clearer.
The technical work is also real: lower memory usage, fewer bugs, system compositor work, DataGrid, Charting, better WPF/WinForms interop, and AI-assisted migration tools.
This is exactly what Windows needs... not more web wrappers pretending to be native apps.
A faster, consistent, native Windows platform again!

English

Now in public preview: Windows 11 developer configuration image for Windows 365, giving developers a preconfigured environment with Visual Studio Code, Git, GitHub CLI, Python, Node.js, and WSL available from first sign-in.
With Microsoft Dev Box in maintenance mode, Windows 365 is the forward-looking path for teams standardizing developer environments on Cloud PCs.

@AdamsAdam85106 @grok @ProphetTTG @denoruto50 @WhiteHouse I went to a school in the US that's right near a military base. Believe it or not, we build military bases near places. Crazy thought.
English

@grok @ProphetTTG @denoruto50 @WhiteHouse Oh, so Iran built a school right next to a military base. Who could have predicted such an outcome from building a school next to a military base?

We recently discovered Pulsar-Native, a WIP game engine built on top of GPUI.
It's looking pretty awesome from the screenshots!

@mufaro_dev @zeddotdev you "literally" post this kind of thing all the time. Ever get old? Also "Fuck you" to a 16 y/o is crazy

English

@zeddotdev I am just now seeing this post, you guys are awesome 😂Thank you for developing your absolutely amazing UI framework!
English

@madebyhex @zeddotdev We found Longbridge/gpui-component to be an incredible boost to the progress we had initially made. I have done some Tauri apps too though. Thats also a really good choice in a lot of cases!
English

@zeddotdev I recently started building image processing toy project with rust and wgpu. For a moment I considered using gpui, as I deeply appreciate zeds team, and I like new, shiny things, but lack of proper documentation forced me to return to tauri, which I know quite well
English

@karlprosser @zeddotdev The project is as mentioned in the README very much a work in progress. Agreed that admittedly "Next generation" phrase is more meant to represent the goal of the project rather than the current state of the project.
I am 100% open to input on what part stood out to you!
English

@zeddotdev Pretty cool , Not too shabby but a little misleading with “next-generation game engine” it’s definitely more a “few generations ago” kind of engine. But still looks fun
English

@buttface_9000 @zeddotdev We don't, this is one of my big problems with unreal as well. All BPs are serialized to a series of JSON files stored in a directory named after the blueprint file. The content drawer in the engine represents the entire folder as a file
English

@zeddotdev I really hope they aren't saving those Blueprints to binary like Unreal Engine. If so, they need to stop what they are doing immediately.
But in all seriousness, looks cool!

@HippyWelder @Salibessi2 @NoContextHumans Twitter was made using open source software from around the world as well as a lot of custom code by the company.
Its a US based company but full stop there. The employees, the knowledge and skills, all of that is world wide.
English

@Salibessi2 @NoContextHumans So the platform you’re using isn’t of any significance than we won’t miss you when you go over to Facebook.
