#WorldTBDay is a reminder that #tuberculosis remains preventable and curable, yet still claims over a million lives each year, with drug-resistant TB posing a growing health security threat. Global efforts have saved millions of lives, but we are still far from the targets set at the 2023 @UN High-Level Meeting on TB. This year’s theme, Yes! We can End TB. Led by countries. Powered by people, is a bold call to action and a message of hope: ending TB is achievable with decisive country leadership, increased domestic and international investment, rapid uptake of new @WHO recommendations and innovations, accelerated action, and strong multisectoral collaboration. At MPP, we seek to support this agenda through public health-oriented voluntary licensing and technology transfer to help speed equitable access to new treatments for MDR-TB and drug-susceptible tuberculosis, as well as facilitating development of innovative combinations allowing for shorter/optimised treatment courses, including for tuberculosis preventative therapies, and by licensing TB drugs that are still under development. This #WorldTBDay, we’re revisiting a key innovation that could reshape TB prevention: long-acting injectables for latent tuberculosis infection. In 2021, MPP signed a non-exclusive, worldwide licence agreement with Tandem Nano, enabling access to promising long-acting nanosystem technologies that could deliver TB preventive treatment through a single injection rather than months of daily pills. This work is part of the  LONGEVITY project, supported by @UNITAID and @MedsPatentPool and led by the @LivUni, where long-acting technologies are being designed to simplify treatment, reduce pill burden, and support better adherence. MPP spoke with three leading members of the LONGEVITY team - Professor @_AndrewOwen_ , Principal Investigator; Professor Steve Rannard, Co-Director of @CELTLiverpool; and Antony Odell, CEO of @tandemnano – to discuss progress in developing long-acting injectables for latent TB and their potential to ease treatment, reduce stigma, and improve outcomes. At the CCSE workshop, Unitaid brought together other Unitaid-affiliated Community Advisory Boards in Zambia to share insights and experiences to support the new SCALE-IT Community Advisory Board, helping to build country-level synergies and strengthen support for new initiatives.

Some people affected by TB fear being identified, avoid care or struggle to follow treatment because of daily challenges. Unitaid and the @Auruminstitute are supporting community health workers to provide counseling, information and encouragement. Watch how in our new video.

Last week in Zambia, we brought partners together for the SCALE-IT CCSE workshop, grounded in a shared conviction: without community, there is no project. Community leadership is not an add on, it is essential to building health innovations that are trusted, used and sustained.
