@CNviolations I read Anne Frank and 1984 in the same English class. I read LOTR at home. I’m a libertarian-ish centrist-ish person who just wants to leave people alone and be left alone

@Biblicalman Raise your son to be kind to others, but to stand up and fight those who hurt others

This is not AI or Manipulated . It is an actual sign I took in a hotel I was staying in . read the whole sign and tell me what is wrong 😆😆🙈🙈#youhadonejob

@AntiWokeMemes Start the little guy with a BB gun or a .22 because that one looks a bit big for him right now. Teach gun safety rules (trigger discipline, don’t point it at anything you don’t want to destroy, etc.) and store them safely. Take the kids target shooting. Wear ear protection.

@Nate22727802 @BigRockInsights For me it’s “are the people I’m letting in trying to do something that hurts anybody?” And overwhelmingly the answer is no for any religion
English

@VerdantCode42 @BigRockInsights I invite you to consider the same question "where is the line"? - what are we willing to allow in the name of religious freedom? Child sacrafice? Slavery? Genocide? Lying and stealing? How far?
We see Christian beliefs as self evident, but to the rest of the world, they're not.

Unsurprisingly, there’s a lot of mentally and spiritually broken members who think opening LDS chapels with open arms to Islam is the righteous thing to do.
Utah has become a playground for global interests because leaders with this mindset have put GDP growth and “compassion” ahead of the needs of Americans for decades.
Mormons used to be proud of their independence and how they were seen as peculiar by outsiders, but over time that has given way to many of us aggressively seeking the approval of the dominant culture... including adopting fashionable opinions on immigration and multiculturalism.
They’d rather surrender Utah to the third world than be called a racist for standing up to people orchestrating this invasion.

SLC Fatigue@MarinasHammer
LDS friends, what are your thoughts on this?

@LoudOutside All of the above. I had fun mowing the lawn as a little girl

@holisticgrenade Only some causes of bad vision can be fixed by it. My husband had it five years ago and it’s been great
English

@Nate22727802 @BigRockInsights By this logic I should think Mormons are bad because of the Mountain Meadows Massacre, Helen Mar Kimball, Warren Jeffs, and the Utah Legislature. That would be ridiculous though for me to generalize an entire religious group based on radicals and historic sins.
English

@VerdantCode42 @BigRockInsights The line is: Suicide bombs, marrying 9-year-olds, killing all infidels, imposing sharia law, etc.
Hindus and Sikhs are also incompatible with Christian values, BTW.

If a dude is married in the temple and his wife dies, he can get married to somebody else in the temple and be married to both in the afterlife. I admit 17 is hyperbole, but I’ve heard of 3 and 2 isn’t terribly uncommon.
I know all about it, I used to be a member but it’s just not my thing. My spirituality is… complicated and not well defined but it’s my own. I have no actual ill-will toward members, most of my family and many of my friends and neighbors are, and I’m happy you all find purpose in it. I think most members are lovely people. I do sometimes poke fun at some of the stuff I left about, I shouldn’t do that because it’s kind of mean. But my issues are largely with the current and historical leadership of the organization and not with the members.

@VerdantCode42 @DanielFullmer6 Ummmm…the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints no longer practice plural marriage. churchofjesuschrist.org/study/manual/g…
We do, however, believe that marriage is eternal when sealed by priesthood authority in one of our temples. Read more about it here:

@ObviousRises He’s probably talking about the Gay Panic defense which got struck down and taken off most books ages ago

Not against it, I think the bill needs to be revised. I support voter ID, but I think we should have a phase-in period to allow people time to get their documents, especially since the county clerk probably doesn’t handle a hundred thousand requests for replacement documents in a week.
Fee waivers on the replacement docs for financial hardship for a time during the phase-in, maybe reimbursed by the fed (as much as I hate that). After that, counties and states can choose to do whatever fee waivers they want. You should always get your first copy of a birth certificate/marriage certificate/whatever for free when it’s filed, but a lot of people have lost theirs.
Then make it so that you bring this stuff to register to vote (at the county clerk’s office, DMV, etc.) but then merely show your driver’s license/passport/state photo ID to confirm against the registration record to get into the polls. Nobody wants to walk around with their birth certificate, marriage certificate, etc. in a four hour line on Election Day.
Ideally I’d want this proof of citizenship to be done at the DMV and indicated on your driver’s license so you don’t have to bring all of this crap every time you move and need to re-register, but that would take a phase-in period also because states suck at updating their drivers license stuff.
And for the phase-in, figure out why it took a decade to do RealID and fix that. Do like one presidential election cycle tops.
English

@DavidBakhtiari If you’re against voter ID it’s because you want your side to cheat in elections. Thats it.
English

Ordering a copy of all of your documents if you don’t have them is a time consuming pain in the ass and also mildly expensive, depending on what you need and what your county charges for a replacement copy. It’s a good idea to get these anyway though, so I think we should do voter ID with a phase-in period to allow people to obtain documents and then fee waivers for financial hardship for the replacement fees
English

@RykerJackson97 I got married at 22 to the guy I had been with since sophomore year in high school and I was considered the old maid of the friend group. Two friends my age had babies already and two were pregnant (including one that already had a one year old). Utah is weird lol
English

That’s better, but it’s still a HUGE issue.
I am contributing to it though so I’m not off the hook.

Only 62% of Latter-day Saints were still single by their 25th birthday. The next closest group on this metric is white evangelicals at 76%. Source: Ryan Burge’s Newsletter

So you mean to tell me, an airplane can go right through the World Trade Center that had steel structure beams of 4 inch plate every 40” using 12 different grades of steel with a yield strength of 100,000 psi but if the same plane were to run into a firetruck on a runway the plane is completely destroyed.
Got it!
