Every year in Metro Vancouver, car crashes kill 100 people. We could get to zero if governments designed transportation systems to put safety first.

Here's one you don't see often...this driver stopped on Knight Street at 7:36 a.m. doing 90 in a 50 zone. Not enough for excessive speed, so ticketed and allowed to continue to child's sport activity. But, 12 mins later, stopped again for doing 81 on Terminal Ave. by different Enforcement member. Go figure! #WeAreOutThere #SpeedMaims

As we look back at 2025, Vancouver has a lot to be proud of. Our city is on the right track and thanks to the ABC majority on Council, we've seen significant progress made over the last year: ✅ Falling crime rates across the board with the City seeing its lowest violent crime rate in 23 years. ✅ Approval of a zero percent property tax increase with a renewed focus on core services. ✅ Significantly reduced wait times for permitting and approvals, helping deliver more homes, faster. We're proud to be delivering a City Hall that is efficient, effective, and focused on the issues that matter most for Vancouverites. As we look to the year ahead, our focus will continue to be on finding ways to make Vancouver a safer, more affordable, and more vibrant place to call home. On behalf of our whole team at City Hall, thank you for an incredibly successful 2025 and we look forward to an even better 2026! @sarahkirby_yung @LisaDominato @MikeKlassen @PeterMeiszner @BrianVMontague @LennyNanZhou

NEW: Council to consider cutting short term of advisory committees on 2SLGBTQ+, Arts & Culture, Children, Youth & Families, Older Persons & Elders, Persons with Disabilities, Racial & Ethno-Cultural Equity, Renters, Transportation, Food Policy, Women. vancouver.ca/your-governmen…

The BCgov continues to do a stunningly poor job explaining its bill to eliminate 1 of the 2 road driving tests for new drivers. In #bcleg committee, Conservatives ask if a driver who gets an N under new system can just not drive for more than a year and automatically get their full license w/out a second road test? The answer is yes. Conservatives ask: How does that improve road safety versus testing these drivers a second time? Krieger says well at least they passed their first road test to get their N. She says 25% of BC drivers stay in Novice license status, sometimes after failing their second test, she says. Under changes, those ppl who would otherwise fail just get their full license automatically, because gov is eliminating the second test. The rationale makes... no sense whatsoever.
