The blame game played in this city to distract and subsequently avoid accountability has real human consequences and we have to end it. The Council passed laws banning the use of tear gas but the police department is still using it on DC residents. Why is that the case?

As school picks back up across DCPS and DCPCS, one thing is clear: thousands of dc students will be left behind on day one because of our digital divide. Access to reliable internet and a modern computer or tablet with no out of pocket costs must happen before school starts.

We have about 80 MPD officers following us and monitoring a simple protest, but DCPS students and teachers go through budget cuts after budget cuts every single year. Defund MPD & fund our education.

Right now, DCPS has about one counselor per every 408 students, one psychologist for every 402 students, and one social worker for every 217 students. However, DCPS has a cop for every 129 students. Let’s fix our crumbling public education system before we beef up MPD.

Invest in classrooms, counselors and community. Not cops. This year, our system spent $30M on policing our schools— MPD’s largest contract. I was proud to join students from our community yesterday in demanding our city invest in the things that truly make them safe.
