This is a big deal, and this where Council oversight matters….The Judiciary Committee needs to understand how this happened, what guardrails need to be put in place, and work with officers so this does not further impact morale.

SROs are short cuts. Principal ask for them only because they know they can get SROs more easily than the resources they need.

NEWS: A source tells me that @MayorBowser and @DoniCrawford have come to an agreement on changes to the teen curfew zones bill that could secure the 9 votes needed to extend the zones over the summer. Bowser will cover costs of expanded DPR programming, as Crawford requested.

The reality you are ignoring is that these age limits at DC USA, restrictions at high school football games, & the curfews weren’t previously necessary. New restrictions were put in place due to increases in acts of fighting, assaults, shoplifting, & disorder by DC youth. (1/6)

People are going to say “yeah, but the behavior!” Look- teens act out. If it’s violent, they can be held accountable. But if you can’t see that behavior is also a REACTION to control, remember: “the child who is not embraced by the village will burn it down to feel its warmth.”

NEWS: D.C. says that starting on May 12 it will implement a wait list for the child care subsidy program, which currently helps 7,500 kids from low-income families pay for child care. City officials say without it, enrollment growth will blow the program's $96 million budget.

A full house here in Ward 7 for a mayoral education forum. The spiciest question, as ever, is on mayoral control: @Janeese4DC says she’s for reforms (like an independent OSSE) while @goodweather4dc says he’d be willing to “give up” control of schools. No clear answer from VO.
