On Saturday, I attended the 1 Year Later event in Edinburgh, which was arranged by @acts_grassroots and @WWWheesht. It was a beautiful, powerful event. That was until I went over to the opposing side to get footage to balance out the video I was collecting. I was approached by Tom Harlow, who is known for the Umbrella Gate incident involving Susan Smith. He approached me saying, “You can F right off,” before proceeding to block my path and grab my phone. I was then rushed by five crazed TRAs. All of this was watched by @PoliceScotland, who then decided to forcefully grab me and remove me, even though, as you can see, I was just standing and recording with no interaction with anyone. They threatened to arrest me under Section 20 of the Police and Fire Reform Act. This is two-tier policing at its finest. A complaint will be lodged, as well as a complaint against Mr Tom for his behaviour in a public place. Act accordingly in society, please.

It was an honour to host the Trans Day of Visibility event organised by @Lab4TransRights and supported by @ASLEFunion, @CWUnews, @unisontheunion, @TransActualUK and @TransLucent_Org in Parliament this week. It was also fantastic to catch up with local groups @NottsTransHub, @NotTransphobia, and Nottingham Pastel Project. Trans people have always been part of the labour movement, fighting for the rights of all working people. Today, trade unions need to fight for them, especially as their workplace rights are under attack. By organising as rank-and-file members, the labour movement can put pressure on the Labour leadership to stand up for trans people.

@KatKarena I appreciate the move to a correct assertion on the matter. A question though the judge might ask is, what purpose it serves to go by "born as" and not eg "having a vulva", thereby willfully discriminating against (admittedly rare) completely transitioned lesbian trans women?

🧵 What actually happened in the Lesbian Action Group Federal Court case (correct me if I'm wrong) RECAP: A lesbian group wanted to run public events for "lesbians born female" only. Under Australian anti-discrimination law, this could be illegal discrimination. So they applied for a 5-year exemption under s44 of the Sex Discrimination Act. The Human Rights Commission said no. The Administrative Review Tribunal said no. The group appealed to Federal Court on pure questions of law. Today Justice Moshinsky ruled the Tribunal made two major legal errors. He set aside the decision and sent it back for reconsideration. /1

11/ The second is more subtle and it relates to when the tribunal grants exemptions. The Federal Court basically finds that the tribunal considered it's powers so narrowly it would effectively never grant an exemption here which is contrary to the wider purpose of the act.

6/ Kat's done a great thread on the detail of the submissions which I recommend, but I'll do my best to summarise the arguments and outcomes for non lawyers here. What you need to know is LAG put forward 4 arguments and the court decided 2 of them. Why? x.com/KatKarena/stat…

2/ The LAG are up against Australia's EHRC, the Australian Human Rights Commission. What you need to know about the AHRC is that they are gender loons who always prefer the interests of transvestites over the rights of lesbians. All you need to know about LAG is they're tough.

@ActiveLesbians @underhandrea @angijones It’s pretty bloody telling how the AHRC failed (as the Judge found) to take in to consideration their duty to consider S10A(1) when it came to lesbians (and there is only one kind of lesbian - female born) when refusing LAG an exemption under the AHRC Act. Not human enough?

@ExposingNV Costs awarded against the AHRC because it got the law wrong. Anyone pretending this isn’t a resounding win for women and lesbians would believe women can have a 🍆
