A closer look at the @Amazonleo Aviation Antenna we announced earlier this week. Up to 1 Gbps down, 400 Mbps up. Simple install, powerful connectivity from gate to gate. So cool to see the team’s work take shape.

Hey @SouthwestAir, how does a flight get delayed for crew issues, but then automatically rebooked for an EARLIER time while I’m asleep? I woke up to an impossible schedule change. Please check my DM immediately, I need this resolved and compensated.

@FoxNews It’s not either/or gun violence can be both a law enforcement issue and a public health crisis. Ignoring one side just makes the problem harder to solve.

Rep. McBath: “Do you believe that gun violence is an epidemic or a public health crisis?” RFK Jr.: “I would say it's an epidemic. I think it's a law enforcement issue though and not public health.” Rep. McBath: “I find it kind of absurd to hear you say that. I really do." RFK Jr.: “You think I should be regulating gangs at HHS?”

Warning to all parents never fly @SouthwestAir. I just checked in online for our flight home tomorrow and our five year-old is sitting in a row by himself. The agent on the phone refused to move him. He told me I could try to ask them to fix it at the airport, but no guarantees.

US helium distributors switch to “call for availability” on shortages. Most US helium has now been diverted to Taiwan on contracts signed two weeks ago. Medical Imaging will now take you 6 months plus to schedule as hospitals shift to referrals outside for imaging.

The helium collapse accelerates. All mass spec labs are about to go dark. Medical imaging, too, for those instruments that use helium. My lab has a 1-year supply of helium in place, because I saw this coming and ordered my analysts to stock up in early March. Apparently we got the last available "extra" helium in the supply chain. Now it's scarcity and, soon, panic.

@angelaroosee Thanks! A clarification for those curious: the photos shown here were captured by me but are official NASA imagery and thus are not for sale (and were not sold in this instance). My photos for NASA can be freely downloaded + printed for personal use, as was done here.

Pleased to share the v1 public beta of the Space Jellyfish Predictor, which outputs text predictions and heatmaps for upcoming rocket launches and their potential to produce a “space jellyfish.” This effect occurs when a launch is illuminated by the sun while an observer is in relative local darkness. You can try it out here: jellyfish.johnkrausphotos.com — please report any issues and suggest features in this thread. I am also eager to see real-world photos from upcoming missions at distances close and far to help refine the models. Especially during this early v1 public beta period, please treat this site as potentially helpful guidance, not a guarantee. In the event of issues, I may pull it down at any time. How it works: The model evaluates the geometry between the observer, rocket, and sun to estimate whether a launch plume is likely to be sunlit, how high it may appear above the horizon, and how strongly it may contrast against the sky. It identifies the strongest post-liftoff moment and converts it into a likelihood/prominence label, and does so in increments for two hours on either side of the current T-0 so you have insight into the evolving forecast. This tool is focused on immediate post-launch ascent visibility and does not model delayed illumination from residual plumes. Nighttime launches can still be visible from great distances, and only sunlit ascents will produce relevant forecasts. As always, real-world conditions (especially weather and atmospheric quality) can affect what is actually visible. The default location for each launch prediction is the launchpad, which is generally sufficient for nearby viewers. For distant observers, you can change your location to generate a location-specific text output for a given mission. The site currently supports Starlink missions with strong fidelity across groups, ISS crew/resupply launches, and GTO/similar missions. Other Falcon 9 missions may use a generalized fallback ascent profile once their launch azimuth (direction) is determined, but these predictions will likely be a bit less reliable. It was fun to work on this outside of the day job. I hope it is useful. If there is strong interest, I will evaluate the feasibility of adding additional vehicle types and launch sites in the weeks ahead.

@DJSnM You are over thinking it. It was losing lots of money and more importantly draining valuable company resources.

What I'm thinking is that the risk per flight is too high, and the consequences of a failure to the rest of the company is too great. Maybe they found a problem with the newly recovered booster and were looking at having to address the problem and build another.
Scott Manley@DJSnM

Blue Origin are suspending New Shepard flights for at least two years to focus on New Glenn. blueorigin.com/news/new-shepa… Something of a surprise since there are clearly lots of people who want to do this and have the money. This means Virgin Galactic might have a chance to catch up.

@SciGuySpace SLS Block 1B can lift 105 tons to LEO and, more importantly, 42 tons to TLI. Block 2 will be able to lift 130 tons to LEO and more than 46 tons to TLI, and will have a 10 meter fairing. I don't see any commercial market for payloads of that mass - only the government can use it.
