@SueJWebber @TheScotsman 1. Transport services cost money. Roads EXCLUSIVELY run at a loss. 2. Full accounts haven’t been released since the Newhaven line opened. 3. The most recent full accounts cover the COVID period (international travel restrictions lifted until March ‘22).

Since opening 10 years ago, Edinburgh Trams have made a net loss of £44 million. Coming in at more than £400m over budget and three years late, the capital’s trams have not run a profit since 2017. Services cannot continue to run at a loss - despite what Cllr Arthur believes!

PLEASE TELL ME IT'S NOT TRUE! Apparently @Edinburgh_CC have a Pedestrian Emissions Zone (PEZ) in addition to the Low Emissions Zone (LEZ) for vehicles, see map.

@PidginPosting @ACECorstorphine An increase of 4411 vehicles PER YEAR?? That’s just over 2 additional vehicles every hour of the working day, or about 1 car per hour of daylight for the whole year. Completely unnoticeable.

@colmcg @EdinburghPicker @MacdonaldHome @Edinburgh_CC @Sustrans Edinburgh Council’s anti car stance has made life more difficult for those who don’t have the option of walking with routes being closed. It’s also going to be difficult for trades to service shops and businesses in this space unless allowances are made

@CouncillorCowdy I’m sure we can all agree that there were absolutely no issues with traffic in or around Corstorphine for ~25 years before the LTN, so the LTN must be exclusively to blame for any traffic today.

@CouncillorCowdy That is an astonishingly bad attempt at spin and a fantastic example of misinterpreting stats. Wanting to walk/cycle/bus more is not anti-car. The only thing anti-car in those stats is that 21% of respondents want to drive less.

Christopher Cowdy - Edinburgh Northern candidate
At Sustrans event today we heard about "getting people on board". Less than 1/2 want to walk or cycle more, and only 1/4 want to take public transport more. First win the "carrot" argument, not beat people into submission with the "stick" of anti-car measures.

@L41RD17 @bjpaddy @CllrScottArthur NatCen isn’t a lobby group, and there’s very specific detail on how 1200 respondents provides measurable accuracy. But if you’re not convinced, you’re not convinced 🤷🏻‍♂️ What were the sampling tolerances of your 200 person survey?

@colmcg @bjpaddy @CllrScottArthur I have read the report and the figures. The report has some wild claims. Population of c527,000 but a survey by a lobby group with 1200 response is accurate.

@L41RD17 @bjpaddy @CllrScottArthur Have you read the report? It explains in the 3rd paragraph who conducted the research (The National Centre for Social Research) and how 1200 people provide a representative example of residents.

@colmcg @bjpaddy @CllrScottArthur Credibility would be more than 1200 people being surveyed and also stating that results based on 1200 rather making out the results reflect whole of City. .. who was the independent body?

@jester_mouse In fairness we’d save a fortune on the NHS, education, road repairs, pretty much everything that’s “free” if we stuck to that logic. It might make them all shite and the economy could eventually collapse but think of the savings!

@Edinburgh_CC @Sustrans Has the council thought about the impact that blocking off large parts of the city centre to car users will have for those with mobility issues.

@natgravett @Holledge Were you local when Carlton Terrace Brae was closed to traffic? I think it was before COVID but I don’t remember why it was closed. Was there a significant difference in noise and traffic?

Why was CALTON HILL excluded from the EDINBURGH LEZ? As shown the circle route for non-compliant vehicles goes OUTSIDE Calton Hill. However excluding the hill enables unofficial parking of diesel tour buses along Regent Road and rat running along Royal Terrace. 1/

@fountainbridge Are they pushing for increased parking, reduced parking or parking restrictions? The article isn’t clear. If Edinburgh’s vocal anti-SfP businesses are to be believed, completely unrestricted parking should have already saved Tranent’s high street.

@Del_ivered @Edinburgh_CC You really believe that a lot of the lost or stolen blue badges that ended up in different cars were put there by carers? And those carers are now innocent victims of an oppressive council?

@colmcg @Edinburgh_CC Guaranteed a lot of these folk will have cared for disabled folk. Sick of this council acting judge & jury, faux private investigators, taking property away, acting like a local mafia. Edinburgh had a feeling of freedom; no longer with shouty signs, moralising councillors.

ICYMI: We've been cracking down on blue badge fraud in Edinburgh, which includes the use of lost or stolen badges, or those belonging a deceased person or family member. Over recent weeks we've impounded several cars and issued tickets to perpetrators 👉 edinburgh.gov.uk/news/article/1…

@Del_ivered @Edinburgh_CC Taking cars off the road that belong to people freeloading by deliberately breaking the law sounds like it should be your thing. Aren’t you usually on the side of the hard working residents of the city? This should give you a warm fuzzy feeling inside.

@nigel_pain @wanderer49 @devisridhar @InfraSisters I absolutely agree. It’s the replacement that concerns me. If the cycle route is replaced perfectly, and we have no reason to think that ECC are capable of doing that, it will still not be a suitable replacement for walkers and dog walkers, young kids, runners.

An 11y old child cycling is killed by a truck- and soon after, councillors in Edinburgh vote *against* low-traffic measures that allow kids to walk and cycle safely to school. Amsterdam & Paris try to make streets safer, while Edinburgh goes other way. news.stv.tv/east-central/t…
