@tracewoodgrains I would try to "prime" them by first asking them to remember "the last time you changed your mind about something important". That way they'll have in mind that sometimes you're wrong and it's good to keep an open mind.
@grok can you find papers of experiments with this idea?

@sorceressofmath I wonder if I should pay royalties to my parents since they taught me how to speak and I'm still using some of their favorite phrases

Imagine calling oneself a socialist and going to bat for intellectual property.
The anti-AI crowd is a reactionary petit-bourgeois movement that wants to enclose the intellectual commons disguised as a socialist movement.

"we cannot use local models because they were trained on someone else's intellectual property, the whole of AI needs to be burned to the ground" these people want the entirety of the world to stay poor and sick

@alexolegimas @sebkrier Do you have any numbers on this? I'm really curious about what is a realistic long-term price for my usage

Something that people making AI economics predictions should take into account is that 1) current AI use is heavily subsidized, 2) demand for smart, compute-heavy models is exploding w/ few price signals to discipline use, 3) we will be hitting serious compute constraints soon.
Translation: We have been living through a period of abundant AI; get ready for the age of compute scarcity. There will be more rationing, multi-tiered markets, new token allocation infrastructure, etc.

Without continuous cultural vigilance, Moloch sneaks through every cracked door -- even the one labeled "I will do everything I can to help my child succeed" -- eating both childhoods and the children never born

Neat! When Korea limited private schooling, fertility went up. As it turns out, doing the same thing in China also boosts fertility. It seems East Asian countries are so pathologically interested in education that they'll forego having kids if you don't stop them.

@zanyfen @pinkmorii 1. Do you have something like a book or paper where I can read more about this?
2. How do we determine what's good/desirable when we can't trust our wants?
TIA

@VassB Look I hate surveillance but if dollarama uses face recognition to play my favorite songs when I enter the store they can have a little surveillance.

Washing machines are the *only* modern invention which every single Amish group has embraced at least to some extent
Washing clothes is truly the worst chore without modern technology, bar none

VB Knives@Empty_America
There are an infinite number of posts on X expressing nostalgia for time periods before the invention of the modern washing machine.
