My @Snapple bottle just informed me that Mangos are related to cashews and pistachios. Well, now I know!

@John_Cyrano I agree, and I would add that Folk D&D is exactly the same thing that Dr. Holmes describes as the game called "Dungeons & Dragons" in the Preface to the game published by TSR. I play Folk D&D but I also reckon that I am playing the game "Dungeons & Dragons" as Holmes intended.

The thing is, Folk D&D exists because it leads to better games. In Folk D&D the table is king, the rules serve the needs of the table. And the reason Folk D&D exists is because it works. We are surprisingly unified in how we diverge from the written rules. RAW can lead to fun games (not guaranteed, but it can), but a streamlined set up resolutions to handle what you and your friends get up to in game is always going to be superior.

Folkdnd is a house built on sand. It's also fake and will lead you to non-games.

@BlackDragonCan There was railroading in the sense of "these are your 6 adventure locations for this tier and this is your ultimate goal," and that is a sort of railroading, I freely admit. But all the other particulars were up to the players.

@BlackDragonCan The last story-campaign I ran -- which ended prematurely because COVID -- had a story plan that was going to divide the campaign into five sections by PC level. "Tiers" in 2e parlance. Each tier had its own BBEG, featured terrain, and unique theme.

I'm going to respectfully push back on this a bit. First, I agree 100%, story gaming does not mean railroading. You can absolutely sit down as the DM with your friends to tell a collaborative story together without railroading them. That's all good.
Huckleberry Spyder@crescendogames9

I am considering punishing with a rolled-up newspaper all my OSR friends who keep using "storygaming" to mean "railroading fools". Right. On. The nose.

@MapEffects @jondelarroz I was lucky that I'd bought the first three WoT books all at once because I wouldn't have read the second and third books after the first one. I really didn't like the first one. But the series only grew on me the further I got. I have no urge to reread any of it, however.

@jondelarroz Eh…I’ve read it twice. Wasn’t impressed the first time, enjoyed it more the second. Wouldn’t say it’s one of the greatest of all time though. I honestly enjoyed the second book more.

I'm having lots of fun working in my minimalist OSR. This is my next idea about treasure; works better than treasure types IMO. Will publish a post soon.

@ReReadingWolfe It's a bit like saying that the Divine Comedy is just rehashing Virgil, Ovid, and Homer.

@ReReadingWolfe I read "Sun Eater" as a synthesis of a wide selection of sci-fi and classical literature that re-reads / interprets all those works in a the framework of a Catholic-like eschatology. For my tastes, this aspect of the series is brilliant.

Again, Trump whining about allies not helping misses the core point: Trump didn't consult them at all. And now, he wants them to rush to help when the US couldn't solve the problem itself. This is EXACTLY why having allies is a plus.

@DaddyWarpig Did they correct for overall body weight? Because breast size corresponds with body weight, and obesity is higher at lower income brackets.

That's not actually what the study showed anyway. Men who MARRY women with larger cup sizes tended to be less than astronomically rich. ALL MEN LIKE LARGE BREASTS. Other studies have established this clearly. (One suspects because of social factors related to preserving family assets rather than any other factors.)
Gia Macool@GiaMMacool

Was this study preformed by angry lesbians? 🤔

@ericbabe3 @Mabon5127 @dm_serious These characters exist in a third position between NPC and PC. They are important characters to the campaign, and are played by players often. The players control them as leaders of armies for mass combat, or for roleplaying their domains in high pressure social situations etc.

@Mabon5127 @dm_serious I will have to write more about it later. But essentially yes. I think the binary nature of the terms PC/NPC cause problems when it comes to this specific case. These are clearly not NPCs, but they are not personal characters either. They exist for the campaign.

@KennyBurchard We get fresh eggs from our chickens. Homemade mayo with a top shelf olive oil is one of the most fantastic things I have eaten anywhere. It only takes a few minutes to slap together.

@KennyBurchard I started grinding my own sausage and hamburger long ago, and the difference between the store stuff -- esp. with the hamburger -- is wondrous. I've had people eat my hamburgers and ask, "What did you put in here!?" as though I'd added some powder. The answer is quality meat.

Dad passed away last night. Thankfully he’s longer suffering, and was with family. Thank you all for the prayers and reaching out. Cancer sucks.

How to succinctly put the difference between story focused gaming and sandbox style gaming? Mercer gives the example of wanting the party to touch an item and have a vision, so if they avoid the encounter he would have them feel a tugging to draw them back in. That's it
Aeres@AeresChronicles

DM advice that so thoroughly ruined an entire generation of D&D that the company is slowly discontinuing their own product. It's taken years for new gamers to shake off their stupor, and they might not fully recover. #dnd
