@GenAI_is_real "if reality was not the way it is but some other way i imagine it to be the problem would be solved"

unpopular opinion: 16GB is plenty if software engineers actually cared about memory efficiency. chrome eating 4GB for 12 tabs is not a hardware problem its a software disgrace. docker consuming 2GB idle is not a feature its laziness. we live in an era where people optimize every single token to save $0.001 on API costs but happily ship electron apps that eat 500MB to display a todo list. if the industry treated RAM the way we treat inference compute - obsessively measuring every byte - 16GB would feel luxurious. the hardware isnt the problem, the software is @adxtyahq

never buy a 16GB RAM laptop in 2026. you’ll regret it within a week

glad you shared this, induced a cortisol-spike that lead to adding following protections + recovery (beyond backblaze with 30-day version which I already had going).
sharing in case others are interested:
- pre-push hook mirrors repo to GL, in case GH goes down
- local HD: cronjob every 5 mins using rsync, sans --delete flag (additive only)
- 24-hr tarballs via cronjob to both local HD and external, 60-day history
- OS-level alert scripts if external is disconnected, if 2 subsequent rsync attempts failed
- branch protection on repo: agents can no longer push directly to master (PRs only), force push to master, delete master
- documented disaster recovery decision tree with exact steps for every conceivable scenario to ensure cool heads prevail
(anything obvious i am missing here?)
again thanks for opening the kimono here @HackingDave, had i not read this while having my morning coffee would have likely just kept telling myself i'll do this "one day soon". i will sleep a better tonight ;)

We still have a bit, AI isn't everything its cracked up to be. Was releasing a new website and platform for my basketball facility company. I tested every aspect of the website vigorously all features battle tested.
Added the repo to a private github for revision history. Deleted half my code, functionality, reverted to an insanely unusable state. Unrecoverable.
Knocked out two weeks of work in five minutes. Had to rebuild - was a nightmare. Got it all done in a day, but - man was it rough.

@faanross @EsotericCofe @shawmakesmagic I think it’s ment to be static. You can put content on top of the text and it will just adjust itself accordingly. Animations are just to show that this is incredibly efficient. And if I’m not wrong, it’s crazy that this is NOT what you get for free from the browser

@Param_eth I remember that I have a wife and kid to support and just get on with it 🤷♂️

@SimJoeMoore I think mass drivers on the Moon will be awesome.

I wonder what @DavidDeutschOxf will say about Elon’s lunacy. Perhaps the word lunacy (moon struck) will have two opposite meanings: good/forward thinking and bad/backward thinking.
Let’s normalize calling Elon a lunatic. 😂

Absolutely brilliant podcast with @terrence_tao on @dwarkesh_sp's podcast.
Here's my DA's summary after multiple rounds of analysis to pull the 4 highest impact ideas.

@jackfriks evolutionary biology -> we are biased towards neg outcomes v positive ones. a bounty could keep you fed for a few days/weeks, pissing off a sabretooth tiger ends your shot at gene dissemination

🚨 BREAKING: The cybersecurity industry is about to get completely disrupted.
Someone just open-sourced a fully autonomous AI Red Team.
It's called PentAGI. 8,200+ stars on GitHub.
Not one AI agent. An entire simulated security firm. Researchers, developers, pentesters, and risk analysts. All AI. All coordinating with each other before launching a single attack.
No Cobalt Strike. No $100K/year pentest retainers. No OSCP required.
Here's what's inside this thing:
→ An Orchestrator agent that plans the full attack chain
→ A Researcher agent that gathers intel from the web, search engines, and vulnerability databases
→ A Developer agent that writes custom exploit code on the fly
→ An Executor agent that runs 20+ pro security tools (nmap, metasploit, sqlmap, and more)
→ A memory system that learns from every engagement and gets smarter over time
Here's the wildest part:
It runs everything inside sandboxed Docker containers. Full isolation. It picks the right container image for each task automatically.
It has a knowledge graph powered by Neo4j that tracks relationships between targets, vulnerabilities, tools, and techniques across every single test.
Cybersecurity firms charge $25K-$150K per engagement for this exact workflow.
This is free.
100% Open Source. MIT License.

it snowed today. a lot. everything is white. march 20th
my kid is growing up. he's beginning to speak. the towers he builds out of his blocks are getting taller
i can't wait for the spring. the summer. I can't wait to open my book of birds, and show him which ones we find. i can't wait to take him through the numerous parks built by the canadians before me. i can't wait to take him out camping, beautiful lakes. i can't wait for him to see nature, brutal, unforgiving nature. a dying animal. predator. prey. sounds, all trying to mate. desperately trying to continue, trying to move. i can't wait for him to experience the quiet of dawn. to see the fog roll up from the water, into our camp, through the forest. fungus, mold, growing on trunks. moving so slow that they seem still. life distributed on every scale, size, complexity, time, intelligence. i can't wait to watch him grow, the light behind his eyes. a child, a child like me

@jackfriks if you spend multiple hours looking at it every day, then it will have a dramatic material impact on quality of life. think of it like buying a good matress (investing in sleep), but for your eyeballs + mood.

ok i think i just convinced myself of spending $3,000 on a monitor by looking at this picture again

jack friks@jackfriks
how can i convince myself and my wife that the Apple Studio Display is worth paying almost the price of my entire office setup for?

We're experiencing issues with Claude Code and Claude.ai where some users may not be able to log in & others may experience slower than usual performance. We're on it and working hard to bring service back to normal, thanks for bearing with us.

@tester47546 @rez0__ @ITSecurityguard False equivalence, we’re not speaking about pop en masse this is contextually relevant since its a highly technical field. Again, rez0 is in the 99.99th percentile as far as accomplishments in industry go, at the highest level. You… ?
English

@faanross @rez0__ @ITSecurityguard Since when does followers count reflect knowledge? I guess this means onlyfans creators are smarter than him .
English

@tester47546 @rez0__ @ITSecurityguard The dude you are correcting is literally a legend, you have 4 followers. Sit this one out.
English

@rez0__ @ITSecurityguard Either low hanging fruits , or something that a human would have found on their own. Nothing magical happening here
