Truck Mounted Attenuators are engineered to get rear-ended. There is a human sitting inside. A TMA is a $50,000 sacrificial vehicle. The entire back end is an aluminum honeycomb cartridge that crushes in a controlled sequence, absorbing the kinetic energy of a 4,000-pound vehicle at 70 mph so the work crew ahead stays alive. The driver parks the truck behind a pothole patching crew. Watches the mirrors. Waits to absorb whatever comes. Missouri owns more than 500 of these. 50 hits last year works out to roughly one per week, every week, in a single state. Each replacement runs $50K. That is ~$2.5 million in destroyed vehicles in 2025 alone. Every hit is a driver moving fast enough on a highway that they never saw a full-size truck with a flashing arrow board, LED signals, and a crash cushion sticking off the back. One motorist hit a MoDOT TMA at 70 mph with no brake marks on the record. The average text takes five seconds to read. At 55 mph that is more than a football field driven blind. Missouri passed a hands-free law in 2023 because the baseline for driver attention dropped far enough that road crews could not safely repair a pothole without a sacrificial vehicle between them and traffic. TMAs exist as a physical admission that on any given highway, a meaningful share of drivers are not looking at the road. 50 hits a year is what that costs to absorb.
MoDOT@MoDOT

Our TMAs were hit 50 times last year. Fifty. Distracted driving puts every life on the road at risk. Make the right choice behind the wheel—stay focused. Never drive distracted. 📵🚗

It’s not lost on me that NYPD tackled and arrested @OsseChi, a Black councilmember, for trying to help a Black family from being pushed out of their generational home in an active deed theft case. Meanwhile @InnaVernikov, a Jewish councilmember, brought a gun to a student Palestine protest, was not arrested, and later surrendered the weapon after it was allegedly made inoperable, facing 0 consequences.

@mercoglianos @CENTCOM Not surprising at all. They’re not going to risk a MANPADS threat to seize a vessel they’ve already confirmed is violating the blockade. It fucked around and found out.

The statement from @CENTCOM is very enlightening. Instead of conducting a boarding, USS Spruance warned Touska for 6 hours it was in violation of the blockade. It is not clear if the ship was suppose to divert or stop to be boarded. The ship continued toward Iran and crossed the blockade line from the Arabian Sea to the Gulf of Oman. When Touska refused to comply, Spruance moved off from the ship, sent a warning to abandon the engine room and then proceeded to fire with its 5 inch/Mk 45. The gunfire either disabled the machinery or the crew brought the ship to a stop. Marines from the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit then conducted a boarding and seized the ship. It is surprising to see that the ship was fired upon and not boarded via helicopters as was done against Venezuelan tankers earlier this year. It is unclear what damage was inflicted to the ship, but it is showing Not Under Command on its AIS. More to follow.

This development in the Michigan Democractic Party is abhorrent. It's another example of how the Democractic Party is institutionalizing antisemitism. Just this past week, Senator Warren campaigned for a Democractic Senate candidate with a Nazi SS tattoo, former VP Kamala Harris spoutied antisemitic conspiracy theory that Jews control the U.S. govenment to harm U.S. citizens, and a Democractic Senate candidate released a video for sole purpose of telling supporters that she refuses to accept funds from AIPAC. Antisemitism exists on both the woke right and woke left. With a few exceptions, Republicans have resisted adopting it as a political position in their party, but the Democracts have done the opposite since October 8, 2023. One might say that the Democrats are returning to their historical roots as the party of political party of the KKK (and of slavery before that).
Jesse Arm@Jesse_Leg

Let this be a wake-up call for self-respecting Jewish Democrats, especially those from my home state of Michigan, and any other Democrats who would prefer their party not descend into the depths of full-blown Islamoleftism: you are losing your fight. Tonight at the Michigan Democratic Party convention, Jordan Acker—the incumbent Jewish University of Michigan Democratic Regent whose house and car were repeatedly vandalized with antisemitic graffiti by fanatical-left Palestine obsessives—was denied the party's re-endorsement and lost his seat. Instead, they chose Dearborn attorney Amir Makled, who recently praised Hezbollah and the Iranian terror regime. The Corbynization of America's Democratic Party is near complete.

I’m at the Michigan Democratic Party Convention in Detroit and Abdul El-Sayed is objectively running away with this race. Positions lile “Abolish ICE”, “Medicare for All”, “No AIPAC Money” & “No more wars” has got this crowd on fire. The People have woken up.

@groundshy No more dubious than I am about your credentials if you’re defending this. These dipshits were fucking around on Guard. That means it was being broadcast to the TRACON. If you don’t understand why that’s a safety hazard, you should have your cert pulled.

The frequency they “meow” on is our “Guard” frequency, supposed to be reserved for emergencies. This is a common thing unfortunately & is stupid. I support penalties for these pilots. Just because you can’t hear an emergency doesn’t mean ATC can’t & you are blocking them.
Turbine Traveller@Turbinetraveler

Delta and American Airlines CRJ pilots at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport are going viral after an ATC clip caught them making "meow," "ruff," and other animal sounds over the radio, but the controller wasn't having it. In the audio, ATC quickly shuts it down, telling them to act like "professional pilots." 📹: Flight Fantasy Simulator

@leifactual The average age of a private pilot in the United States is generally around 40 to 48 years old, with roughly 61% of the private pilot population being over the age of 40.

@groundshy How about we hold them to the basic standard of every PPL holder out there, and expect them to not fuck around on comms with ATC? Safety will absolutely not sufffer by people doing their jobs properly.

@GrahamC47 You fly a regional jet early in your career. These kids are still high functioning pilots. But still kids who still love to fly. Break them and paradoxically safety will suffer.

The world should bookmark and remember this moment, a statement from the US Secretary of State openly acknowledging the punishment of two adult women, not for who they are or for any wrongdoing of their own, but simply because of who they are related to. This alone exposes the hypocrisy and double standards at play. It raises serious questions about how firmly the US truly stands by its stated principles on women’s rights and individual accountability
Secretary Marco Rubio@SecRubio

Until recently, Hamideh Soleimani Afshar and her daughter were green card holders living lavishly in the United States. Afshar is the niece of deceased Iranian Major General Qasem Soleimani. She is also an outspoken supporter of the Iranian regime who celebrated attacks on Americans and referred to our country as the "Great Satan." This week, I terminated both Afshar and her daughter's legal status and they are now in ICE custody, pending removal from the United States. The Trump Administration will not allow our country to become a home for foreign nationals who support anti-American terrorist regimes.

This is the shot you can’t get from the press site. This camera was sitting a few football fields from the SLS rocket at Pad 39B for days before launch, baking in the Florida sun, surviving rain, humidity, and whatever else the Cape threw at it. No photographer behind the viewfinder. Just a camera, a sound trigger, and a bet. The way pad remotes work: you set your camera up days in advance, dial in your composition, lock everything down, and walk away. You don’t touch it again until after the launch. The shutter fires on sound activation with a @MiopsTrigger smart+ trigger. With SLS, the four RS-25 engines ignite six seconds before the solid rocket boosters, so the camera is already firing before the vehicle even leaves the pad. You get home, pull the card, and find out if you nailed it or if a bird landed on your lens two days ago and left your a present and you got 400 photos of soemthing crappy. There’s no formula for protecting your gear this close. Some photographers build wooden boxes with doors that pop open. Some use plastic bags and tape. Some do plastic or metal barn door rigs on hinges. I tend to leave mine open just in plastic rain covers because boxes limit my composition and setup time, but that means your cameras are more exposed to the elements and whatever energy and debris comes off the pad. You’re basically gambling a camera body every time you set one. That’s what I love about this genre. There’s no playbook. You make it up as you go. Every time is an adventure. 📸 credit: me for @SuperclusterHQ - Artemis II pad remote | ~1,000 ft from Pad 39B | Kennedy Space Center
