Post truth: knowledge as a power game Any side of political debate on any topic will tend to reproach others of disinformation Read how it works [Excellent book, recommended]

@Belyiand I think you're begging too many questions. Think about it this way: People on both sides of any ideological divide could agree with you and mean totally different things. #PostTruth

I just learned that the Bezos Earth Fund is sponsoring another National Academy of Sciences Committee on climate change, also full of COI and climate advocates What's going on over there?

Not only was this a hugely weak COP29 deal, it was pushed through over the objections of a number of countries. Azerbaijan’s authoritarian regime may be used bulldozing opposition against its own people, but the UN process cannot be bullied in the same way. This is yet more proof that this has been the worst led meeting in COP history.

@MikeHudema Science by assertion. They knew nothing about cloud response or any of the other possible rapid response channels of the climate that may ameliorate to zero the small perturbation of human CO₂ emissions. Nothing of the climate is beyond natural variability.

The dilemma nicely described in this book [i don't like the subtitle]: Renewable energies decline in LCOE, but system costs don't decline. Result: cost decline is real, but subsidy levels don't decrease, also becomes difficult to finance projects because of negative prices

David Turver@7Kiwi

You can't have it both ways. Either the cost of renewables is coming down, in which case it makes sense to wait, or it isn't which means we shouldn't spend any more money. No more spending on expensive chocolate teapots.

In 1972 the prestigious Club of Rome projected that growth in consumption would have exceeded the available resources of many minerals, including natural gas and petroleum, by today. #Catastrophizing

@giulio_mattioli High confidence only for CO2 contribution CO2 contribution of 1.5% of global anthropogenic Global anthropogenic is not known to a precision, so it must be less With non-anthropogenic (oceans, forest fires, volcanoes) it may get to below 1% Too marginal to have any effect

The iron rule of discussions on the decarbonisation of aviation. Most people denying the need for demand-side measures are just a few tweets away from arguing for scrapping climate neutrality targets altogether.
GP@GPofficial111

@giulio_mattioli @mic12052 Can’t get there. Impossible. Plains and engines have a 20 year investment cycle. Accordingly, in 5 years, the first net-zero emission planes would have to be launched. Won’t happen.
