@Donald_G_Redman I do this too! Longhand slows my brain down for deep thought. Typing speeds my edits.

I know a handful of authors who still write longhand, but I use a hybrid approach: I think in longhand and use those notes to help shape my stories and poetry and work it out on the keyboard. Today, I’m thinking.

Modern dating is weird. You show up looking the best this person will ever see you. And you are towing this steamer trunk of mistakes, disappointments and pain behind you like “Nothing to see here! Just focus on my new haircut!”

Gen X: Raise your hand if your parents gave you sugary cereal… then sprinkled a teaspoon of white sugar on top before the milk. Yeah. Same. Miracle we all survived.

In the US, we live in a society that pressures all these people to marry and have kids. But there is nothing in our society that encourages people to stay that way. The sheer cost of everything immediately means you must be dual-income. Which means now you pay for daycare if you have kids. The stress of affording food, home and daycare means your life is now reduced to: working, shuffling kids, school and sports. This creates two very stressed roommates versus a loving partnership of mutual support. Ask any 30-40 yo married couple with kids in America today if they are truly happy and I guarantee a majority will start crying.

Dear 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001. It's time to get married ……. Period.

#vss365 #trickery The Trickster There is a sterile, white hallway in my soul lined with countless colored doors on either side and inside each of the doors lie a life in which I participate, wearing a mask made of #trickery. Inside one door I am a wife and a mother, full of obligation and pain and void of joy and belonging and understanding. Inside that door I am suckled dry so that my very essence of my being is drained from me. Inside another door I am a professional leader that is admired and emulated for specific knowledge so vast I could never impart it all within a lifetime. Opening another, I am a healer and a guide to broken bones and broken souls sheparding them and restoring them to health of the body, mind and sprit. I am a daughter and a sister where I am expected to perform a perfectionist life within a schema built by humans yet under the guise of the Holy Word. I am a friend and confidant to several close to me, holding space without judgement so that they may feel empowered to share their stories without shame. However, At the end of the hallway of doors, there is a dark empty glass room filled with mirrors and a box. In this box I am urged to place my clothing and my masks. I stand in this space, shivering in the cold, my nakedness exposed. In this room you greet me, the ultimate trickster. You take my arm and gently lay me down upon the floor, in front of the mirrors, in front of the glass walls, in front of the box of masks and clothing. And as you start to make love to me in this barren dark room, I realize you have compelled me to never want to open another door again.

My PT is an incredible human. During my last session he told me of a prayer he says. It can work for many different faith bases and it resonated with me: (Name of Deity) Empty me of X. Fill me with X. Use me for X. (Close prayer) I love the “empty me” part. Why pour clean water on top of pond water? It will still be murky. Asking to be emptied first of that which no longer serves you is a part of prayer I’ve never considered.

I was going to bed for the night, but a person kept tagging me when I had told them I needed to go for the night. Blocked. Not passive aggressive, nor mean. Told them night repeatedly, still tagged a couple more times, was too much, stopped much needed sleepiness. Unacceptable.

I got a little carried away at Trader Joe’s and now I’m going to have to cook for everyone I have ever loved or cared about over the next few weeks to go through my inventory. This is a joyful problem to have.

@kramerposts Did you hear the story about the guy that had to have his leg amputated? He asked to get the leg and he hired a chef to turn his leg meat into tacos and he invited his friends over and they ate leg tacos. Don’t do that though.

Well. I gave an hour long talk about urology at an internal medicine conference and I made them laugh SEVERAL times so I count this as a success.
