@jon_stokes they can keep the throughput if they want it, but probably you don’t need to be doing 2 million trades per second if there’s no mechanical arbitrage from timing advantages…

These numbers are the result of an HFT arms race. If all the HFTs were forced to trade on chain at a far lower throughput no one would notice but HFT shops.

Counterpoint: there’s zero social benefit to this much speed in public markets.

Oh man, it's even better. Not did they, yes, just keep adding exponents as long as they were significant, but they actually never even show the raw data in the paper. Only the model fits!

@Stellaratum like, seemed like there were ~1k javelins and ~1-2k nlaws sent over recently. what if the ukrainians had 10x as many available?

@Stellaratum (mine was a joke post but thanks for the clarification) i’m curious about the lesson though, why can’t harassment and delay escalate to halting their forces, with sufficient supplies of weapons?

that’s why the second amendment should be interpreted to encompass MANPADs, anti-tank weapons, etc, so that the volunteers have matching capabilities

@Sharon_Kuruvila Qualitative difference between Russian forces and hypothetical international brigade would be much larger than their namesake faced; hard for ragtag fighters with small arms to seriously disrupt an adversary with overwhelming long range fires and air supremacy

i highly recommend reading this as a microcosmic overview of Russia's military. is it actually representative? i have no idea, but this is supposed to be the russian navy's flagship, so one might imagine everything else as being even worse-off en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russian_a…

great thread, curious what others think mirrors some things ive been ruminating on while my guess is yeah russia ends up "winning" the overall impression i have of their performance is that even after their purported modernization theyre fighting like a third rate power

@Manicton @acidshill @eigenrobot can you honestly look at the decisionmaking process around this war and feel confident guessing what they (= he) wants?

@NeerajKA remember last week’s “our CBDC can do 1.7m tps, all we had to do was make every shard fully trusted and able to do arbitrary, undetectable inflation”
