Self-employed income, got paid a small amount today. Login to declare it, sorry you can only report for the April 2024-April 2025 tax year. 🤦‍♂️ Seems designed for people with highly ad-hoc self-employed income to fall foul of this.

@ForgedInCode I've no idea, grok suggests some of the valves need to be reversible for two-way. Presumably replacing valves would require represurrising the coolant. So perhaps not as trivial as planned. Though what's to stop it being built for two way, but with a single direction pump?

@robadob Interesting take, curious how up/down grade works in practice?

Given the currently ridiculous legislation around heat pumps; one-way (great ) good, two-way (heat + cool) evil. How viable is a heat-pump which can be up/down-graded as required to achieve cooling whilst allowing the one-way incentives?

From the written speech, "accepts the principle" Sounds like another vital recommendation deferred and kicked down the road.
Looking for Growth@lfg_uk

Chancellor promised to respond to @JohnFingleton1 Nuclear Review at the Budget. Instead she's bottled it. NO commitments at all. Nothing! High energy costs are CRUSHING British industry and living standards. It is URGENT that ALL recommendations MUST be implemented ASAP.

An official report has called for RADICAL reforms that would revolutionise nuclear power in Britain. Government is rumoured to be wavering. We have 2 days before the Budget to PUSH them to act. Tell your MP: ACCEPT ALL the recommendations. 👇

@LysanderS__ @AmeliaERWood They'll still require the training, generic powder extinguishers aren't suitable for oil fires that may occur in a kitchen or garage.

@robadob @AmeliaERWood Btw, London Fire Brigade has now updated guidance that different types of extinguishers are not allowed to avoid issues . They want generic ones fitted. So now, there will be thousands of unused fire extinguishers in HMOs across London that need to be removed. Such a joke.

@LysanderS__ @AmeliaERWood Regulation could go further. Tenants could be required to do mandatory annual training to ensure they know how to use the fire extinguishers safely and on the correct types of fire! Same as employees under Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.

@AmeliaERWood The cost of providing, replacing and annual checks for all this and more (including the fire exit signage point down on a stair) will be passed onto the tenants. Just remember, that landlords don’t make the rules.

@AmazonHelp @AmazonUK That screenshot is via that page. My complaint is that "Haul" is sending out unnecessarily frequent spam, and is presumably under the umbrella of a much larger category for purposes of marketing granularity. I don't mind the usual amazon marketing, but Haul is being ridiculous.

Spam much @AmazonUK ? And there's not a granular way to turn off "Amazon Haul" marketing either.

@Crispy75 @tomhfh The government could go further then! (/s) Are there any examples were instead the footpath is raised with a gentle ramp at either end?

@tomhfh This was more intended as "you call those steps", than me expressing a strong opinion regarding steps to front door being legislated against. It seems fair to assume, extreme examples such as this are reflected in property value as they're suitable for less potential buyers.

@tomhfh Extreme example of stairs to front door, hard work for the postie doing a whole street of these. These are from street view near Graves park Sheffield.

Europe’s total fertility rate is 1.5. That’s fine right? 1.5 is close to 2! But it means one generation is 25% smaller than the last. Over 3 generations that’s a 60% fall. Plus a much higher median age. It’s good there are *finally* books talking about this seriously.

@rcolvile A similar quote is in there, it just typos economically. > The Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS), an independent economic think tank, describes stamp duty as "one of the most econmically damaging taxes".

It is quite weird of the BBC - in a weirdly negative article about the Tories' stamp duty proposals - to quote the IFS without mentioning that its longstanding and forceful position is that stamp duty is a bloody awful tax and needs to go bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…
