@Smileyyeg Depends entirely on location. I have a family of four in London and do almost everything on PT or bike. Had a reason to drive my car over the weekend and had to jump start cos the battery was flat from not using it so long. Should sell it really, probably cheaper to hire.

@BenGrahamUK Hollowed out from the inside by venture capital vultures. Asset sale and leaseback, loaded up with debt, all value extracted, then move on to the next one.

NCP has gone into administration. They’ve been running car parks since 1931, and somehow ended up £305m in debt. Surely the maintenance for a car park is simple: ticket machines, barriers, lights, and occasional cleaning. How can a business model literally based on people paying to park go bankrupt?

You see this symbol painted on the road in a one way street but it's pointing against the ordinary flow of traffic. What does it mean?

@OBEhizele New SL15 bus will help a ton for E-W trips in S.London. (No updated official map, so the blue blobs are stops added since consultation)

@Gallo_Woodworks You still can. I've worked on similarly ornate new build. It costs a fortune.

@CryptoCyberia I started using an Explorer replacement called File Pilot and OMG it's so smoking fast. Dance up and down the hierarchy at 60fps. Search INSTANTLY. Dev built his own UI framework in DirectX so windows native doesn't slow it down. Highly recommend!

Why the absolute FUCK did they build the Windows 11 taskbar and file manager in React? What were they thinking? These retards can't even figure out how to let you move the taskbar to the top or side. This shit, even when I tried on my excellent hardware, is SLOW.

Bit of logo nerdery here. New signalled crossings in Regents Park replacing (mainly trief kerbed) refuges. It seems to be OK for cyclists - although do let me know if your experience contradicts this impression. Also I'd query the cycle logos before the zig-zags... 1./

@big_pedestrian Bike helmet has saved my head twice. In both cases there were no cars involved. I'll leave it at home for a trundle to the shops but if I'm going to be doing any kind of speed it's stupid not to wear one.

An SUV at typical urban speeds exerts 75 - 300 times the force a bicycle helmet is designed to absorb. They’re effectively irrelevant in the context of a driver crashing into a bicyclist.

@cezthesocialist Whatever happened to the many supermarkets which used to stay open 24 hours a day, with much of stock replenishment done during the night hours? I’m guessing the plague of shoplifting had something to do with the cessation of it….

Why does the UK not have 24-hour shops? Even a town of about 1k people that I stayed at in Poland had one. And there’s about 30 7-Elevens alone in the town of 25k that I’m in right now. Surely the UK is not the only place in the world where they aren’t profitable.

@theiaincameron If I'm making a turn on my bike, it's safer for me to make that turn than it is to stop for someone about to cross. I know this from experiencing some hair-raising close passes while attempting it.

Once again on this morning's run I found out that the level of ignorance on rule 170 (H2) of the Highway Code is widespread. Despite the HC changing in 2022, many drivers in the UK remain unaware that they should yield when pedestrians are either waiting to cross or have 1/2

@elrodrorifa @DesignReviewed Page numbers. Teletext streamed the whole service in a loop, divided into pages. You entered the number and when the loop came round it would show that page. Advanced TVs would buffer the stream to allow instant switching.

@but_cyclists I walk my bike through (some) lights all the time. This one at Snow Hill and C6 for example, hop off in the ASL (red), walk over, check for bikes coming down the hill, proceed in the bike lane (blue). No danger to myself or peds, and it gets me away ahead of any impatient cars.

This is the the one thing the anti-cyclists screamers constantly forget. If you roll through a red traffic light at 3mph while sitting on a bicycle, you have committed an offence. But if you get off the bicycle and walk it through a red traffic light at 3mph? Not an offence.
Jeremy Burke@jpsburke

Cyclists being able to turn safely on red lights makes complete sense. And a cop in London just told me to get off my bike, walk across the footpath, and get back on anyway

@londonyimby Why have they made a decision to make the pavement as unattractive as possible, with a colour scheme that makes it look like a budget French autoroute hotel?
