Nobody is using Telegram in India for messaging. Telegram is mostly used by scammers in India. Most financial fraud (Billions of dollars) in India happens through Telegram
The Indian government should have banned Telegram years ago. It is long overdue.
I’ve been noticing the same pattern for years. Almost every fraudster immediately moves to Telegram. it’s harder to trace, easier to operate.
Calling this an internet freedom issue misses the point completely.
Telegram became one of the preferred platforms for financial fraud, scam networks, betting groups, piracy, and other illegal activities in India.

India’s IT ministry banned Telegram for one week because some users shared leaked exam questions. This punishes 150M+ ordinary Telegram users in India — not the insiders who leaked the exam materials. And the ban hasn't stopped anything. The leaks just moved to other apps.

@nilansaha Actually, I don’t think it will matter in most cases for us. The latency to servers in Germany from around the world is roughly ~200 ms, and with that kind of latency, customers won’t face any issues using an AI image generator SaaS 😂

@levelsio I think Chrome extensions ask for permissions when you install them. Also, they can’t just run code directly from remote servers because of Chrome’s security rules. But there can still be security risks depending on what permissions you give and how the extension is built.

Chrome extensions are so incredibly unsafe
Malware criminals find popular ones, pay the owners of the extension lots of money, they add malware to the code and millions of people get infected
Then they take your cookies, localStorage, anything they can access
Which is why in locked down advanced security devices you can't even install Chrome extensions
I mostly run uBlock Origin, but have some others that I'll just vibecode now to stay safe
