i hate to say it but a 1% tax on property over $5m you don’t live in is hard to argue against for the average voter like, the solution is simply “actually live in NYC”, “what are you so broke you can’t afford 1%?”, and “well you could just leave NYC” all are ego hits none of these property owners don’t wanna take and have a hard time refuting love or hate him, he’s actually doing something vs most mayors and tells you in the slickest way possible

Like UBI experiments have shown, even if you just give people handouts, they'll still want to work to earn more money over what they already do.

@izariez I was just thinking about this lol. Part of it is the language barrier and cultural gap, but at the same time, the kind of people to argue this vigorously about something like that are the same who do the same wherever. We just have a tendency to paint with a broad brush.

There's such a different response to this from Japanese fans and everyone else, most people are happy about a dead game being brought back by the community. But I've seen a bunch of Japanese fans angry about this because it goes against the wishes of Square Enix.

So for us, the concept of Fair Use is backed by a legal history and arguments that they just haven't had over there (to my limited knowledge).

They also didn't have historical events like the Pinkerton riots and gilded age to erode trust in corporations like the US.

Attitudes towards piracy is a case of thing, Japan being worse
