Something I’ve never shared online, I’ve started three “companies”. Two of them have failed and burned to the ground. The next couple months will determine if the third one fails as well. 😅 If this one burns to the ground I don’t think I’ll ever try again, too old too tired.

@Cryptopathic no need to enforce it even - people will naturally start ignoring those that have no provenance proof in favour of those that do, which will naturally incentivise people to participate

Social media will not exist in 5 years without some sort of enforced government/social-graph ID system to filter out AI agents. We are already drowning in information. This current system benefits only capital and crushes the ability of the average person to think independantly.

@grhmc Imo the main reason nixpkgs is so sticky is that it is the only way you can get pkgs into the only default binary cache. Showing new users how to enable custom caches just for nix flakes is a PITA. If flakehub was a default substituter in mainline Nix, it’d help adoption a lot.

Nixpkgs is no longer the ideal way to distribute your software to Nix users. FlakeHub is. * Incredibly easy to publish to. * SemVer means users can follow releases, not `main`. * Immutable releases means no shifting or lost dependencies. * Trustworthy binary cache, no poisoning.

The thesis of FlakeHub is that Nixpkgs can't scale much more. The difficulty of accepting new contributions tilts the table away from Nixpkgs being the best place to ship Nix expressions. This is proving out to be true.

@sam_battenally this is the main reason I still rarely use LLMs for coding... they're good at generating LoC, but more code = more problems I'll be much more interested the day they can reduce LoC while maintaining readability
