Я работаю в одном из московских стоматологических институтов и периодически к нам приезжают на до удаления зубов, которые где-то и по каким-то причинам не смогли удалить. Собственно в эту пятницу к нам попал молодой пациент, которому 3 часа пытались удалить верхний зуб мудрости, но не смогли. И, со слов пациента, вместо того, чтобы сказать об этом и нормально куда-то направить — попросили подождать его в коридоре и просто… ЗАПЕРЛИСЬ от него? Все хорошо, я до удалил ему этот зуб мудрости, однако поведение коллег до сих пор вызывает у меня вот такие вот эмоции

I'm entirely blown away by this news. I used to reread George Orwell's 1984 and Animal Farm once a decade in my life (I believe it's been at least four times for each -- see my literally stating it here: x.com/realDaveFeldma…). A perpetual and critical theme of Orwell is how propaganda isn't just about new material – it's most effective form is in rewriting the past to benefit the state. That’s why Andy Serkis’ new animated Animal Farm adaptation is extremely ironic. This isn't about making the story more "family friendly" -- it's apparently reframing Orwell's original critique itself. (Which -- and I couldn't be more serious about this -- is itself Orwellian!) Orwell’s original novella is very specific. It’s an allegory of the Russian Revolution and Stalin’s betrayal of it: the animals overthrow the farmer (the old regime), only for the pigs—Napoleon foremost—to consolidate power, corrupt the revolution, and become indistinguishable from the humans they replaced. That’s why the ending matters so much: “The creatures outside looked from pig to man… but already it was impossible to say which was which.” The point isn’t that an outside capitalist force ruined a socialist utopia. It’s that power, once centralized, recreates oppression from within. In this new version, that internal corruption appears softened. Napoleon is reportedly sidelined, while the primary threat becomes an external corporate figure. The focus shifts away from the state’s tyranny and toward a more one dimensional, cliche corporate villain. The filmmakers have also said they wanted a more hopeful ending. But Orwell’s bleak conclusion IS the warning. Animal Farm isn’t meant to reassure us. It’s meant to unsettle us about how easily ideals collapse once power goes unchecked. They're not just simplifying the story – they are changing its meaning. And that’s what makes this Orwellian in the literal sense. Orwell warned that propaganda works best not by inventing new stories, but by rewriting old ones until their original meaning disappears.

It is sad to see how the fact that one of Ireland’s prominent Jewish figures became president of the State of Israel, turned from being a source of pride to Dublin to being a source of denial. Chaim Herzog, my late father, grew up in Dublin and fought the Nazis in WW2 as an officer in the British Army. His father, Rabbi Isaac Herzog, was the first Chief Rabbi of Ireland and a strong supporter of Irish Nationalism. So painful to see how Ireland, once home to a proud, thriving Jewish community, has become the scene of raging antisemitism. Ireland is now one of the most virulent anti-Israel countries in Europe, blurring the line between criticizing Israeli policies and questioning Israel’s right to exist. It is high time that Jewish organizations in the U.S. and around the world sound a loud and clear voice in denouncing this shame and clarifying its consequences. Ко мне часто обращаются за советами по эмиграции или легализации в Испании, и мало у кого есть чемодан наличных денег, замороженные акции в США или три паспорта в кармане. Репутацию какого банка разрушит счёт матери-одиночки с тремя детьми, без которого ей не получить пособие на школьную форму? От какого гражданства нужно отказаться антивоенному активисту, которому и в выдаче российского-то паспорта консульство отказало? Вы серьёзно думаете, что молодой парень, прячущийся от призыва в армию в Грузии (где с каждым днём становится опаснее) уже три года, просит тур.визу, чтобы повеселиться в клубе Pachá на Ибице? Это сотни тысяч людей, застрявших между двумя мирами, которым предлагается на выбор: пойти с вилами на Кремль и сесть в тюрьму на 10 лет, или выбросить "плохой" паспорт, обрекая себя на годы бесправной жизни. И вот ещё что. Макфол, кажется, считает выход из гражданства таким символическим жестом отказа путину в лояльности. Сжёг паспорт перед американским посольством в Берлине - и совесть твоя очищена спасительным огнём. Но в реальности отказ от гражданства - это нудная и дорогая бюрократическая процедура. Отказ от российского гражданства - это не "выбор совести", а привилегия, которую могут себе позволить немногие те, у кого (а) есть другой паспорт и (б) есть деньги отказаться от первого. Интересное интервью. Я знаю @McFaul двадцать лет - из за эти двацать лет у меня ни разу не возникало сомнений, что это умный, честный и прямой человек. Майк прекрасно разбирается в российской политике - как профессор. И я никогда не встречал американского чиновника, который относился бы с большим любовью и уважением к россиянам и России чем Майк. Прежде чем реагировать, послушайте, что он говорит в интервью @yurydud и подумайте, кого вы слушаете.
