@robertsgulans @scarlettscarlia It's about individual safety vs safety of people that might be considered "stupid" or otherwise having made a poor decision. Not a perfect parallel but it's like being asked to risk your life for someone who's about to commit suicide, you know suicidal people would press blue.

@daiconlovesyou @NikTek Hard to say without seeing it first-hand but it does seem like a fair price, original SC retailed for 50$ 11 years ago, and having one myself i can say they did cheapen out on some parts to get to that price, if this controller feels as good as the competition it should be worth.

@NikTek It's only a fair deal if you aren't willing to step back from consuming for awhile and accept companies saying $100 controllers as the new norm. Consumers need a sanity check on hardware prices, but Valve is definitely not stepping on any toes with a $100 controller

It confuses me how japanese people can so strongly believe in doujin culture while simultaneously demonizing fan projects that try to preserve a work because it "goes against the wishes of the company"

There's such a different response to this from Japanese fans and everyone else, most people are happy about a dead game being brought back by the community. But I've seen a bunch of Japanese fans angry about this because it goes against the wishes of Square Enix.

Japanese copyright views confuse me cause on one hand, they have a thriving and extremely popular doujinshi culture which openly violates copyright in the same way all fanart does and this is seen as acceptable simply because the companies don't pursue them. But ensuring a game they payed for can still be played after EOS is seen as some extreme flagrant disregard for copyright law even though by japanese law, it's still likely completely legal in most cases to do it. Japan's stricter view of copyright seems to stop completely with specifically playing games and watching anime, nothing else.

@Pugnus_Simia @MizutamariVT You can interpret the two behaviours we see here the opposite way just as easily though, going out of your way to make a mod for a game and release it to the public for free sounds pretty collectivistic, whereas what i see from the japan side is gatekeeping for bragging rights.

If anything, Disco Elysium makes fun of communists the most. If you opt into it, it tells you to get the gulags and death squads ready. The communist quest is centered around two geeks who talk about revolution and slaughtering capitalists but don't go outside. The union boss is a fat, corrupt mobster who has no qualms about flooding his own streets with drugs. And at the end of the game, you meet the Deserter, who is a bitter old soviet who couldn't get over the city's failed attempt at communism. His old regime was decidedly defeated in battle, but not before attempting to put nuclear power into "the people's" hands, causing a mini-Chernobyl.
