@davepl1968 Dude, they rolled a TV cart into the classroom, it was a big f’ing deal with the first teacher in space. Wait, aren’t you Canadian? I’d bet that has a bit to do with your filter of the event.

99.9% of people who "experienced" the Challenger disaster saw it on replay and now remember it as live. Almost NO ONE was watching. Everyone thinks they were. It's a fascinating collective false memory.
Jeremy London@SirJeremyLondon

Anyone who experienced the Space Shuttle Challenger explosion, like I did, is probably a bit hesitant to get too excited about the Artemis II launch today. I truly hope our children don’t have to experience such tragedy. May the Universe welcome them and return them safely home 🙏

@it_unprofession Wild how nobody questioned the real issue: Why was a $275k engineer supervising Kubernetes without knowing Kubernetes?

Last month my intern asked for help with a Kubernetes error. He was stuck on a YAML file. He looked desperate. I make $275,000 a year. I haven't written a line of code since 2017. I don't even know what a "pod" is. But I didn't tell him that. I leaned back in my Herman Miller chair. I said, "Stop trying to code. Start prompting." I told him to paste the error into ChatGPT. He did. The AI told him to delete the cluster. He did. Production went down instantly. The CEO called me screaming. I didn't panic. I told the CEO we were "testing our disaster recovery protocols." He was impressed by my foresight. I got a bonus. The intern got fired. Innovation requires sacrifice. Just not mine.

Signal
Signal@signalapp·
Right now there are a lot of new eyes on Signal, and not all of them are familiar with secure messaging and its nuances. Which means there’s misinfo flying around that might drive people away from Signal and private communications. One piece of misinfo we need to address is the claim that there are ‘vulnerabilities’ in Signal. This isn’t accurate. Reporting on a Pentagon advisory memo appears to be at the heart of the misunderstanding: npr.org/2025/03/25/nx-…. The memo used the term ‘vulnerability’ in relation to Signal—but it had nothing to do with Signal’s core tech. It was warning against phishing scams targeting Signal users. Phishing isn’t new, and it’s not a flaw in our encryption or any of Signal’s underlying technology. Phishing attacks are a constant threat for popular apps and websites. In order to help protect people from falling victim to sophisticated phishing attacks, Signal introduced new user flows and in-app warnings. This work has been completed for some time and is unrelated to any current events. If you’re interested in learning more, this WIRED article from February 19th (over a month ago) goes into more detail: wired.com/story/russia-s… Signal is open source, so our code is regularly scrutinized in addition to regular formal audits. We also constantly monitor security@signal.org for any new reports, and we act on them with quickness while also working to protect the people who rely on us from outside threats like phishing with warnings and safeguards. This is why Signal remains the gold standard for private, secure communications.

@GichuhoMungai @elonmusk I’m sure I generate more (tech company) than that average worker, why isn’t the other side of your story that I still have to pay for healthcare, as does my employer. Why is theirs subsidized and not mine?

@TMobileHelp Oh, that’s been done. Call service and get the same, tired, old “there are congestion issues in your area”. You’ve made me do what I didn’t want to, go back to Comcast. But your network is truly horrid now.

@TMobile @TMobileHelp I’ve had it, your network is horrid and all support can do is say “I’m sorry, there’s congestion”. You’ve made me do the one thing I said I wouldn’t do, go back to Comcast.

@Grubhub If I’m paying for a GrubHub+ membership, the faster (not “standard”) delivery time should be STANDARD. I should not have to select a $0 item for something I’m already paying to have access to. I know why you do it. It’s bullshit. Make it the default for paying members.

@glowyaquarius To be fair, academic IT is the pits, I’m sure the email admin has to act under whatever policy they have regarding that. Spent 15 years in that type of environment, it does end sadly in some cases. But there’s an abundance of caution, and this.

What’s the dumbest question you’ve ever gotten working in I.T.? I have so many of these, but a personal favorite was the girl who asked me why when people call her desk phone it shows their name on the display and not her own.
