An American buys a $138,000 home. She sends the bank $9,286. After interest, taxes, and insurance take their cut, ONLY $952 actually touches the loan. $8,300 is PURE interest. This isn’t paying down a mortgage — it’s usury, and it should be ILLEGAL nationwide.

@JedKolko Well they have done nothing to solve the housing problem... like the rest of the ENTIRE SUNBELT so, not sure what they're expecting when Tampa and Jacksonville are right there.

How can Republicans with a straight face say that Gavin Newsom destroyed California, then look at states like: Alabama Arkansas Kentucky Oklahoma Missouri Mississippi Louisiana Indiana And say these states are doing better ?

@greendragonhq Someday one of you guys is going to find out that Alabama is the aerospace engineering and manufacturing center of the world, and God do I wish I could see your face when that happens.

I am concerned that the math that makes “removing the income limit from social security” work just kicks the can down the road further, except it’s a much bigger can, because high income earners are middle-aged and would not be collecting their increased benefits for at least ten-fifteen years. So all that extra money gets taxed now, to pay for benefits whose size has already been decided. Or alternatively its proponents actually believe a version of it will be passed where benefits have an income cap but taxation does not. Which will never happen. Any plan for social security needs to be framed as shutting it down. It’ll take 100 years and some age groups will have to contribute more than they’ll be able to take out, but that needs to be the trajectory. It can’t be saved.

People understand that the reason the taxes are capped is because the benefits are capped too, right? Like there is a very logical reason for why they do not collect over a certain amount and its one of rather basic fairness.
Conor Rogers@conorjrogers

One of the most radicalizing moments of my life was when I learned that they just stop collecting social security taxes on money earned over like $150K. Like you just suddenly keep 3-6% more money on all money over that threshold.

@ArthurBoreman @gurcanmeister And once you hit the SS cap, they jack up your marginal income tax rate. So you pay the same but stop getting incrementally more SS benefits in retirement. Can't look at taxes in isolation.

The fact that the hockey world now wants to debate adding a new Defensive-Defensemen award just because Evan Bouchard is running away with the points lead (and could break 100 points) is next level Oilers hate.

“You don't build, we're not gonna fund, Period” Newsom is done with these NIMBY local governments refusing to build housing and asking for a handout when (surprise, surprise) there are more homeless people. Build housing, or be ready to deal with the consequences like adults.
Governor Newsom Press Office@GovPressOffice

If cities and counties refuse to build housing, we're not going to fund them. The state has already delivered them $28+ billion to address homelessness and build. Build. Now. Enough!

A 2% annual tax on that wealth would cover all of what we currently spend on Medicare without anyone else paying a dime. And that wealth would still continue to grow. We can't afford not to tax them at this point.
More Perfect Union@MorePerfectUS

The top 1% now has $53 trillion in wealth, while the bottom 50% holds less than $5 trillion. How do we close the gap? Actually tax the rich. This is how states are pushing for equitable taxes–and relief for the working class. Thread:

An American mom checks urgent care pricing before bringing her daughter in. Cash price: $150. She shows her insurance card — the price goes UP. When she asks to pay cash, they REFUSE. She pays thousands a year for coverage, and it locked her out of the cheaper option.

My liberal 4.0 daughter just got into her dream school. 7% acceptance rate. Absolutely unreal. Insanely proud of her. Now do I rob a bank, push a cheaper school, put her in student loan debt, or dust off the old captain’s hardhat and head back to sea? Decisions. Decisions.
