After a takedown operation April 22 across New Jersey, 29 members and associates of a dangerous drug trafficking organization were arrested on narcotics trafficking and firearms offenses as a result of an ongoing investigation conducted by HSI Newark and @HSTFNCC partners.

On March 17, 2026, a federal grand jury in the District of Puerto Rico indicted 52 gang members from San Juan, Morovis, and Cataño on drug trafficking and firearms charges. The investigation was led by the DEA and the Puerto Rico Police, with support from multiple federal partners, including the FBI, HSI, CBP, the U.S. Marshals Service, the U.S. Border Patrol, and ATF. During today’s operation, the Puerto Rico National Guard and municipal police departments from Guaynabo, Bayamón, and San Juan also provided support. This case is part of the Homeland Security Task Force (@HSTFNCC), a whole-of-government partnership dedicated to eliminating criminal cartels, foreign gangs, transnational criminal organizations, and human smuggling and trafficking rings operating in the United States and abroad.

Norfolk man convicted on federal drug trafficking and firearms charges. Jamar Gay faces a mandatory minimum of 30 years and up to life in prison when sentenced on Aug. 2. Based on the ongoing work of the interagency fugitive team on the Homeland Security Task Force (HSTF), which the FBI manages with HSI, three men were arrested earlier this month. John Patrick Balase was arrested in Echo Park after HSTF members received information that Balase absconded and was in violation of his parole in connection with a federal conviction in Colorado for receipt of child pornography. Balase was arrested in Echo Park where it appeared he had been living out of his vehicle. Kyle Patrick Alan Mayville, who was in the vehicle with Balase at the time of the arrest, was found to be wanted for three felony warrants in Colorado, to include failure to register as a sex offender; a parole violation; and contempt of court in a child exploitation case. Mayville had been convicted in Thornton, Colorado, where he assaulted and drugged a victim; and in Hudson, Colorado, for the sexual exploitation and assault of a child. In a separate case, William Lawrence Billow was wanted for multiple parole violations after he was convicted federally in an FBI case for possession of child pornography for which he was sentenced to 120 months and 15 years of supervised release. In March, a federal judge issued an arrest warrant for Billow and he was taken into custody in Woodland Hills, California.
