@lowmegatron Taurine caps well in size 00 at around 500-600mg fill. For the 1000mg therapeutic dose referenced in most studies you'd want 2 caps, or step up to size 000 which holds closer to 800-1000mg depending on powder density. Gelatin or HPMC both work fine with taurine.

Taurine lowers blood pressure elevated by stress. It works by lowering adrenaline, which can raise blood pressure. In a study, 10 younger people with borderline high blood pressure were given taurine. Taurine decreased systolic blood pressure by 9 points. The drop in blood pressure was accompanied by a drop in adrenaline. Adrenaline was higher in the group with higher blood pressure compared to those with lower/normal blood pressure. Glucagon stimulated a greater increase in adrenaline in the group with higher blood pressure. Taurine decreased the adrenaline spike caused by glucagon. "Evidence presented suggests, therefore, that sympathoadrenal tone is increased in young borderline hypertensive individuals, and that oral administration of taurine attenuates increased tone, leading to the reduction of blood pressure." Taurine was dosed at 6 g/day for 7 days. Ref: Effects of increased adrenomedullary activity and taurine in young patients with borderline hypertension

The thyroid exerts a huge influence on blood pressure—even in people with “normal” blood tests. People with TSH in the upper part of the normal range are 30% more likely to have high blood pressure. “High serum TSH level is an important risk factor of hypertension, and euthyroid individuals with higher-normal TSH level are at higher risk of developing hypertension than those with lower-normal TSH level.“ Thyroid hormone, even levothyroxine, lowers blood pressure. “Although the mechanism is unclear, thyroid replacement therapy can reverse hypertension in hypothyroid patients.” When people are injected with TSH, endothelium-dependent vasodilation drops by 17%. That causes higher blood pressure by making blood vessels less able to relax and widen. When arteries stay more constricted, blood has to push through a narrower space, so resistance rises and blood pressure goes up. Older research showed a huge effect of NDT on high blood pressure. NDT is a thyroid hormone medication with both thyroid hormones. Having both is critical for the best outcome. 20% went from high to normal blood pressure. 55% had a reduction in blood pressure. 25% did not improve. Broda Barnes reported that many patients treated with NDT had their high blood pressure improve. “I saw her in December 1958-with a blood pressure of 200/130 and full-blown myxedema. She was started on one grain of thyroid daily and over the next several weeks, her blood pressure began to come down a little. Three months later, she was taking two grains of thyroid daily and her blood pressure was down to near-normal level. Her thyroid dosage was then raised to three grains. Her blood pressure became normal and she went to work to help out with her family's strained finances. She continued to work for the next six years. A move to another city occasioned a change in physicians and the new one stopped the thyroid medication and placed her on diuretics and tranquilizers. When I saw her in my office again in December 1971, six years after her last visit, her blood pressure was again way up, 200/130. Her cholesterol level which had been 207 on thyroid therapy was up to 356. During the six years, she had developed arthritis which had become so severe that she had become addicted to pain pills.” Note: as with every condition, there is more than one cause of high blood pressure! @Jeezb179 @lowmegatron You can bet most brands are getting their taurine from China and possibly from the same lab. NOW probably orders more so they get a cut-rate Buy your taurine in bulk from Bulksupplements.com, which is probably the same as NOWs taurine 🤷‍♂️

@ZynxBTC And is this 5 years in the room with us right now? Come on, this isn't 2015 anymore. 5 years has now been bumped to 15 to 20 years for any meaningful gain. Yes saving in bitcoin is better than holding $$ - but 5 years will not bring you ground breaking freedom anymore

If you're young and want to win and gain your freedom, all it takes is 5 years of sacrifice. The game is rigged and you're joining a game of Monopoly that is 3/4 through and all the assets have already been bought. It's over for most, but it doesn't have to be for you. 1) Stay home or rent a room in a cheap city. 2) Work and save every spare penny into Bitcoin. 3) After work... hone a skill, hobby or interest and document it online. 4) Avoid further education and wasting money on useless degrees/masters/PhDs. Only if it's an absolute necessity. After 5 years you'll be more free than ever before. Unfortunately, money printing means most of you will never have the same quality of life as your parents. It's not fair, but such is life. At least you have Bitcoin. You need to do the opposite to what your friends and peers are doing. Most people won't do this, so therein lies the opportunity.

@Zero84043789906 @PokerGO @Andrew_Robl He's not a mega-nit but he does have a tightish image when putting his stack in play. I think people are overlooking the river over-bet from Robl - Robl knows Gavri wouldn't jam all in with a baby or middling flush here after over bet - so he either has J high flush or the nuts🤷‍♂️

@PokerGO @Andrew_Robl I’ve never heard of Justin Gavri but, is he such a mega-nit that he’s deemed incapable of bluffing in these spots? That’s the only way I could see Robl making this fold. That, or marking the cards 😂

@PokerGO @Andrew_Robl IDK about greatest cash game fold ever - after Robl over bets the river and Gavri jams do you really think Gavri is jamming a baby flush when facing an over-bet? Also Gavri supposedly has a tightish image where he's only ever jamming nuts or close to 🤷‍♂️ Love Schulman though

What do astronauts have in common with gymnasts, pole vaulters, cancer patients, and Crohn's patients? They all offer support to my hypothesis that optimal pressure is fundamental to health and especially to immune function. As I covered in "The Biomechanics of Immune Dysfunction: This is the elephant in the autoimmunity and cancer room that EVERYONE IS IGNORING," T cells use the pressure of their extracellular environment to push off with internal "muscle power" that drives the capture of kinetic energy to invest into the energy-hungry reactions involved in their activation. Cancer modifies its external environment to make it more difficult for T cells to perform this maneuver. In Crohn's patients, 1) liquid diets made of trash (Ensure) are as effective as high-end biologics in inducing remission because 2) they reduce the internal pressure in the intestinal segment proximal to the site of inflammation with 3) animal experiments showing that internal pressure is the very cause of that inflammation, and 4) one of the major risk factors for a flare is a trip to altitude of 5000 or more feet and 5) simply putting Crohn's patients in a hypobaric chamber for 3 hours experimentally induces a flare in 33% of them and 6) PIEZO1 is a gene for a pressure sensor and mutations in it are strongly associated with Crohn's. This shows that Crohn's flares involve a high ratio of internal to external pressure in the section proximal to the inflamed section. Liquid diets reduce internal pressure but altitude and hypobaric chambers reduce external pressure. I suspect this interacts with poor biomechanics in the pelvis and lower spine to cause intestines smooshing into their environment in a way that generates the inflammation. Astronauts get reactivation of viruses in space because space causes dramatic reduction in external pressure. A space suit corrects for this, but the correction is incomplete and wearing a space suit in space is like being at 30,000 feet altitude. So the low pressure destroys their immune function. I believe the reason that elite male gymnasts and pole vaulters live eight years longer than the general population, whereas athletes that have excellent cardiorespiratory fitness like cyclists only have two years on the general population is because their sports require excellent biomechanics, and excellent biomechanics leads to optimal pressure in body spaces and around body tissues, which leads to optimal immune function.
BowTiedTed (Bronze Age Arc)@BowTiedTed

61% of astronauts on ISS missions reactivate dormant viruses while in outer space (e.g. EBV, VZV, CMV) -- and the full immune cascade driving this still isn't fully understood What's exciting is the Artemis II crew is now flying with personalized organ chips built from their own bone marrow cells, which could finally help us understand how and why these viruses get reactivated at the cellular level I post a lot about immune function and mitochondrial health -- and I believe the viral reactivation in this case is directly related to something going wrong with the body's energy systems, specifically to the mitochondria Microgravity triggers oxidative stress, damages mitochondrial function, and suppresses immune cells. The NK cells and T-cells that normally keep viruses in check essentially shut down What makes this interesting beyond space is that a similar pattern shows up in ME/CFS, Lyme, and long COVID patients Same thing here, mitochondrial dysfunction, immune suppression, and dormant viruses wake back up because the body's ability to keep them suppressed breaks down Maybe with this chip we'll be able to pinpoint the exact moment the body's defenses goes haywire, or maybe we'll find a better biomarker which can point a specific mechanism causing the immune dysfunction Two NASA-funded health studies I'm tracking (highlighted in yellow) - Blaber Lab (mitochondrial dysfunction in spaceflight) - Dr. Iyer (mitochondrial oxidative stress) Both seem like they're building toward the same question from different angles
