To be a better manager of your finances, I believe one of the fundamentals is to donate regularly. I try to donate on every 1st, 10th, and 20th, unless I make a larger donation that I deem to cover several months’ worth of donations. In finance terms, I “DCA” into donating, like how I DCA into my investments. Reasons why this works: 1. The act of giving trains your mind to reduce attachment - important when managing your finances, come what may. 2. The power, abundance, and gratitude you experience before, during, and after donating elevates and sharpens your mind if you want to direct it to be so. 3. The power you experience when donating will not lead to a victim mentality of any kind. 4. To donate regularly, you have to allocate your time and resources towards opportunities to donate so they generate value through helping others again and again. Training your mind this way will carry it towards how you manage your finances. 5. It is good to be able to help others using your finances, and having it as one of the reasons towards achieving financial success.

@ChrisSpoke Tangentially related, but has a 1-bed in Edmonton gone up to $1,500+? Was around $1,000 when I lived there a few years ago.

The average rent for a 1-bed in Edmonton is $1,590. In Toronto, it’s $2,100. Under CMHC’s MLI Select program, to qualify for affordable housing points, rents in Edmonton can be set at $1,665. In Toronto, they have to be set at $1,348. So we get far more developers using the program and building rental housing in Edmonton than in Toronto, even though rental housing is far more scarce in Toronto. Make it make sense.

@notanotherquant No direct exposure to it aside from what’s already in my broad-market ETFs like $XIC. I’m watching how and to what extent they affect the miners and the metals.

This oil supply shock is breaking the old pattern. $CL1! at $111.79 $XLE at $59.38 For the first time while in a supply shock, the green $XLE line is trading above the black $CL1! line. Every prior supply shock zone shows the opposite setup. The sector is more disciplined now, so equities are holding up while the commodity runs. Yet the ratio is still only 0.5312. It is compressed and has not levelled off. Even with the inversion, energy stocks have not fully priced in these levels. Do you have any exposure to oil stocks right now? Been trading $USO or anything in energy?
