With clear direction under the Botswana Economic Transformation Policy, the country is on an upward path. I reaffirmed the IFRC’s commitment to working with the @BotswanaRed and its 13,000 volunteers to support the Government’s priorities.

Earlier today, I presented my credentials to Botswana’s Minister of International Relations, Dr Phenyo Butale, followed by a two-hour policy dialogue between President Duma Gideon Boko and the diplomatic community.

From thriving home gardens to restored water systems serving more than a thousand families and facilities in Qhuthing and Qacha’s Nek in Lesotho, resilience is growing through local action supported by @LesothoRedCross and volunteers, supported by @IFRCAfrica Pretoria Cluster.

Today I met with the visiting team from @FCDOGovUK and colleagues from @BritishRedCross. We discussed @IFRC’s Renewal 3.0, NSIF, EAPs and community resilience related long term engagements to explore collaboration & strengthen support for communities served by our volunteers.

As part of its humanitarian mandate Botswana Red Cross Society is on the ground at the 2026/2027 National Budget Speech complementing medical services to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all attendees. The SG / CEO of Botswana Red Cross Society @kutlwanokoks is in attendance.

@RedcrossSa volunteers have been conducting flood reassessments in Moses Kotane Local Municipality, North West. Following recent floods, 103 households were affected. This will assist with identifying priority needs and guide humanitarian support as recovery continues.

It was great meeting with Pablo Torrealba, Head of Office for DG ECHO in Southern Africa, to discuss strengthening partnerships. We explored opportunities for closer collaboration to enhance humanitarian impact across the region. Looking forward to advancing our joint efforts.

Productive engagement between @IFRC_Africa Pretoria Cluster Delegation, @DIRCO_ZA Humanitarian Affairs Department, and @RedCrossSA. Fruitful discussions on strengthening collaboration and expanding areas of humanitarian cooperation to better serve vulnerable communities.

Communities in Limpopo, South Africa, continue to be affected by ongoing floods. @RedcrossSa Musina Branch volunteers are currently conducting assessments in Tshakhuma village, where the situation remains challenging. Alongside these assessments, volunteers are providing psychosocial support (PSS) to affected communities, offering emotional care and much-needed relief during this difficult time.
