Matthew Schmitz: "Christian identity politics is not a sign of revival, but a symptom of religious decline." Correct.

This is either ignorance or deliberate deception. The Barbary slave system and American chattel slavery are not remotely comparable, and pretending they are is intellectual fraud. In North Africa, many captives were ransomed, absorbed, or eventually reintegrated into society. Their children were not automatically born into permanent, inheritable slavery. They never lost their legal personhood in the same way. In the United States, slavery was industrialized, racialized, and hereditary. If you were enslaved, your children were enslaved. Their children were enslaved. Generation after generation, treated legally as property, not people. No exit. No reset. No humanity restored. That system lasted for over 200 years. It functioned like livestock ownership: you own a dog, the dog gives birth, the puppies belong to you. They breed, their offspring belong to you. Ten generations later, long after you are gone, that entire bloodline still belongs to your descendants. That is how American slavery worked. That is the difference between captivity and chattel slavery. One was a brutal system of forced labor and ransom. The other was a permanent, multigenerational economic machine built on dehumanization. So no, you cannot casually equate them to dismiss the historical and economic consequences. That comparison collapses under even basic historical scrutiny.

@iOccupyNigeria @elonmusk You’re wrong. Literally just read man. Just fkin read. Korea had the longest unbroken hereditary slave system in the world. In India, many are trying to fix it but… they still have hereditary class slavery. There’s hundreds of others.

@DanielJHannan I have never seen one, they are mostly worn in Afghanistan. What I have seen a lot of, in London and Yorkshire, are Niqabs. I imagine lots of Brits think a Burka and a Niqab are the same thing.

Be honest. How many times have you seen an actual full-on burqa on a British woman? It is extraordinary how much political energy is expended on an issue whose real-world impact would, to a first approximation, be zero.

@CollinRugg When will American conservatives realize Israel is as interested in expunging Christianity from its borders as Islam?

JUST IN: Israel says they are coming up with a “plan” to allow church leaders to worship at the holy site “in the coming days” after Cardinal Pizzaballa was blocked from entering the Church of the Holy Sepulchre on Palm Sunday. Netanyahu’s office has released the following statement: “Over the past several days, Iran has repeatedly targeted the holy sites of all three monotheistic religions in Jerusalem with ballistic missiles. In one strike, missile fragments crashed meters from the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. As a result, Israel has temporarily asked worshippers from all faiths not to worship at the holy sites in Jerusalem's Old City to protect them. Today, out of special concern for his safety, Jerusalem police prevented the Latin Patriarch Cardinal Pizzaballa from holding mass this morning at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. Again, there was no malicious intent whatsoever, only concern for his safety and that of his party. However, given the holiness of the week leading up to Easter for the world's Christians, Israel's security arms are putting together a plan to enable church leaders to worship at the holy site in the coming days.” Video: tzogho / tt.

@DanNeidle @Heccles94 I do think Britain's tax rates top out at too low an income level. Perhaps we could do something like higher rates on very high incomes to pay for removing the phase-out of the personal allowance or the child care phase-outs, things like that.

@Heccles94 I think you should add up how much that costs, then say which public services and/or benefits you'll cut to fund it.

@DJBranham It was definitely a mainstream critique for a while, but I think a lot of right-wing commentators intentionally misunderstand the term. They think it means all masculinity is toxic rather than some expressions of masculinity being toxic.

This is why socialist economies eventually restrict capital outflows and then human capital outflows.

The logic of parts of the left over the last 15 years is that even having this debate, at all, helps Matt Goodwin. Disastrous thinking we need to get over.

@Noahpinion That being said, Canada has clearly gone too far on this issue in some ways and any policy would need substantial safeguards.

@Noahpinion My own experience with chronic pain changed my mind on this. Mine wasn’t to the level that I’d want MAID, but I could 100% see how incurable daily pain could get to that level. I think it’s wrong to keep people trapped in that involuntarily.

When it comes to the perpetual virginity of Mary, do you agree with the Catholic view or with the view of Protestant reformers Martin Luther, Ulrich Zwingli, and John Wesley?
