@eaconner @yousefjsaleh More trains/ferries is best, but a bike/ped connection should also exist, if our transpo sector wasn't a total disaster Ppl regularly propose bridge, but tunnel is better. There's also ways to use existing tunnels for BRT/bike/ped, e.g. 1-lane bike "pulses" every 1-2hrs.

@RunsAsCoded @yousefjsaleh I think literally any other infrastructure investment would yield more benefits and move more people than a pedestrian/bike connection and I say this as someone whose primary mode of transportation in Hudson County is a bike or my own two feet.

@JonatPhil @yousefjsaleh Tunnel would be orders of magnitude cheaper to build, would get used more bc it can be less than half as much climbing

@RunsAsCoded @yousefjsaleh I’m down for a tunnel too, I just figured it wouldn’t get the same traffic and monetization value. If I was a private entity looking for a ROI, I think a bridge would be best, but I haven’t evaluated the hard numbers

@eaconner @yousefjsaleh There should obviously be a bike/ped connection b/w Hudson County and NYC. As it currently stands no one is working on it, and we will still be at square 0 in 10 years. I don't accept that. Ofc I agree with you re: the Councilman's failure to build any bike infra in the Heights.

@RunsAsCoded @yousefjsaleh None of this is practical, especially when 1) all crossings are operated by PANYNJ; and 2) there are transit and infrastructure improvements that could to be made in Jersey City at a fraction of the cost of any of these schemes. Saleh can’t even get protected bike lanes built!

@JonatPhil @yousefjsaleh Bayonne Bridge is 215', Goethals 140', Brooklyn 127', Manhattan 135', Wburg 145' (bike path). 228' is a huge schlep, there are successful bike/ped tunnels around the world of comparable size, 1000's of people per day would use a bike/ped tunnel between 2 of US' densest counties

@RunsAsCoded @yousefjsaleh But a bridge would also be a tourist attraction, fees to walk across could fund the bridge. A tunnel would only be used by commuters only

@bbenzon @DanLevin_inJC @yousefjsaleh Yes, bridge not really feasible, bike/ped tunnel is easy/cheap/practical though x.com/vincemarchetto…

@grischard @GridlockSam @BarmanNYC Holland tunnel is 93’ deep. Bridge would need to clear a 2000’ navigable channel with a height of 228’. Also you have to worry about suicide barriers and people potentially jumping off. Attached is an image from a NJIT arch studio with @PANYNJ I reviewed on this topic.

@HeinisHardNews @yousefjsaleh @JCHudsonMedia He could have moved forward with what was piloted, but is accommodating someone's objections, and refuses to say what they are Big waste of time and energy, for the tiniest 1st step towards reasonable bike infra in the Heights.

@presinzano4hob1 Hoboken spending $40MM to rehab a parking garage ($50k/space) nj.com/hudson/2023/11… Depressing watching a new Councilperson focus exclusively on performative nonsense. You could save the city millions of pencils (and your constituents $10k/year) by reducing car dependence.

Hey @EmMorgen when can we see your presentation on a protected bike lane for Park Ave/JFK Boulevard East? Members of the public I’m sure are curious to know what you spoke to @RaviBhalla or tried to speak to him about. Obtained via OPRA: @BikeHoboken @HudCoStreets

Didn’t assume anything only going by the response to my OPRA and the non-response to my question. If the Park Avenue bridge isn’t part of the proposal why mention it? And why is Mayor Bhalla getting invited to 30 minute meetings when it isn’t in HOB? I am interested in bike infrastructure on that bridge if it’s feasible. That’s why when I was under the impression that it was being considered I asked about the design.
