@RossMcCaff Anyone being able to improve and succeed in fair competition is part of what makes it so successful. If you record in sport relevant categories...they should actually be those categories. The fair completion is what makes it fun.

parkrun has got more people active in this country than arguably any other public health initiative for a fraction of the price. That people who should be encouraging it instead find something to quibble with shows how tragically obsessed they have become.

@virrals And for some people sporting competition is the fun, which is why parkrun is very popular. But it's only fun when it's fair. Its embarrassing to have to explain this to adults.

Parkrun is a fun run. Your placement doesn't matter. This is literally just forcing trans people to be publically humiliated for the sake of it.

I’ve never been big on the whole idea of civilisational decline. Maybe because, despite all the historical evidence, history never repeats itself exactly. However, I have come to believe that Western democracies, apart from the US - even though there’s some evidence it’s heading that way too - simply aren’t capable of fighting wars anymore. That’s not to say their militaries aren’t capable of prevailing. Western militaries are still the best in the world. But I don’t believe Western societies are prepared to bear the full costs of war; especially the costs inflicted on their enemies. Every attempt to defend itself would be met with media, social media, and NGOs wringing their hands over “civilian casualties,” international law, war crimes, and a misunderstood concept of proportionality. These concerns would block effective decision-making in war. Meanwhile, the enemies of the West would have no such qualms. In effect, the military spending of countries like the UK, France, Australia, and Canada is a wasted resource. They’d never use it effectively. It would be better spent on social progress; and simply accept the inevitable.
