First test of FSD Beta V14: A Thread 🧵 For context, this was an early morning drive during moderate rain. My area provides some interesting challenges for FSD in that it's a mix of (small-medium) city driving as well as country driving. We have lots of narrow rural roads, weird intersections, and a good variety of driving situations. My driving style is maybe overly conservative. I don't "test the limits" of FSD. If the car gets confused or does something that would embarrass a human driver, I disengage pretty quickly to correct it. I want to blend in, not be that Tesla. Overall Thoughts My initial feelings are mixed but lean positive. Aside from the serious issues noted below, it was a pleasant drive, and I'm generally happy with V14 so far. It's an improvement in some areas and feels smoother than V13. However, it's still far from perfect and CERTAINLY not ready to be unsupervised. It has some frustrating comfort issues and at least one major, dangerous regression. This drive required my first safety disengagement in a long time, which is very disappointing. Though, I am confident that most of my issues from this drive will be fixed quickly since they were not present in V13.

@thejakebuzz If I knew I could support myself until I got another job, absolutely. Half my coworkers can barely dress themselves let alone do their job... But management likes them so they stay. But I keep getting their work because they can't manage their own ahit

@BTCBreadMan I own a Tesla but I'm my 12 years of driving a car that used gas have I gotten a drop of gas on me... What y'all doing with that pump? Lmao the complete exaggeration of everything related to ICE by people who drive EVs is incredibly old and fucking annoying.

@DevinOlsenn This should be REALLY good! I've tried open pilot before and it's shockingly good for essentially just being a smartphone on your windshield. Testing on your M3 should be a great comparison.

I watched the video and it really just looked straight up dangerous. It should not be available to the public let alone for purchase. I felt the same about early FSD beta as well. But I'm also kind of excited to see how it advances. I would love to see some real competition for FSD.

I want to make an update to this post for all the people defending Rivian and faulting me for comparing this to Tesla FSD. My Rivian “Universal Hands Free” review The name implies it is more capable than it really is. The cost ($70 CAD) is way too high for what it offers. The claim that this works on ANY marked road is downright unsafe since it does not work well on most roads other than highways. The system is not intuitive to use and can feel unsafe at times as a result. This is a good first attempt at a highway lane keep with adaptive cruise control - the same system my sisters 5 year old BMW has (for free). The big difference is BMW doesn’t call it universal hands free and charge for it. Rivian should restrict this to being used on highways only or at the very least market it for highways only. Showing it driving around city streets implies to me the end user that I should be able to use it there without any issues. I like Rivian but it’s so crazy to me seeing Rivian folks dismiss my video simply because I compared it to FSD. In a world where FSD doesn’t exist - UHF is still bad.

Rivian Universal Hands-Free vs Tesla Self-Driving This was my first time testing Rivian's new Universal Hands-Free, and I was honestly surprised by how it performed. I understand this is their first attempt and it will only improve from here, but truthfully, it is worse than any version of FSD or Autopilot I have ever used. @DevinOlsenn While this would be very nice to have. I still disengage a lot to avoid confusing others. The lane change hesitancy is really bad again after the latest update. Speed profiles are still very broken and navigation...

I can't wait for the vebal commands to come to FSD. "Hey Tesla, that's my friend in the car ahead - can you follow them for the rest of the drive" or "Hey Tesla, can you park at the back so we aren't near any other vehicles? And could you pull in so that I could load stuff into the trunk easier" I think no matter how good FSD gets there is going to always be some ammount of user preferences that will be impossible to get right for everyone. So Tesla just needs to build a baseline that is safe and logical, and from there if the user wants something more granular they can simply ask the car. "We are following a bit too close, mind backing off from the vehicle infront of us?" I would assume something like this wont come until V15 or beyond - but who knows... Exciting times.

My beloved mobile charger that came with my Cybertruck doesn’t seem to be working anymore. It flashes a little bit of red when you first plug it in, then it goes away. When you try to charge a Tesla it gives an error “charging equipment not recognized.” This happens with multiple Teslas and it happens with both the 14-50 and 5-15 adapters. Tesla Wall Connector charges just fine so it seems to be the mobile connector itself specifically. Is there a reset switch on this thing somewhere? Or I likely need to get a replacement? At almost two years old am I covered for a replacement or do I need to buy a new one? Help @grok

It's a real problem. No exaggeration I've had the following happen: Was in standard, going 56 in a 55. Switch to hurry, FSD slows to 53. Switch to mad max and it gets up to 68 before I go back to hurry and it does nothing so I go back to standard... Drops maybe 1 MPH. Soni switch to chill and it stops to 64 and then I go to sloth and it panic brakes down to 55. The speed profiles are B.R.O.K.E.N. They refuse to acknowledge it and it's the #1 reason I disengage and am down to 94% FSD.
