Yesterday I met with the Parliamentary Advisory Council for Transport Safety to listen to their priorities for our Road Safety Strategy. We will work with them and others to deliver this strategy – the first in over a decade – to improve road safety for all and save lives.

CVU officers and @DVSAEnforcement have today trained Lancs RPU officers and @Cumbriapolice RPU officers in the inspection of abnormal loads. Several vehicles were found to be overweight or not compliant with their movement orders. There was even a visit from @gmptraffic CVU.

@TransafeNetwork @Anthony54296548 @SurreyRS Maybe you could learn something too. It's 1mm for 3/4 of the width of the tyre and visible tread for the other 1/4. I was incorrect because the 3/4 has to be central to the tyre, with the worn 1/4 to the edge or edges.

That moment when you wished you hadn’t overtook the unmarked Traffic car and run a Red Light 🤔 @PoliceStafford Silly behaviour to beat a red light 🚦 gets you no where! What it does get you is £100 fine and 3pts. ✅ Section 36 of the Road Traffic Act 1988! #Fatal5

@Anthony54296548 @SurreyRS Ahh, yeah ok, thank you, I am incorrect. 3/4 in a single band across the tyre, the edges can be worn, but not the middle. Not that I would ever allow any tyre to get anywhere near the state of that one.

Proud that @LordWhitty is our @EASSTransport Patron and was Chair for many years. He is passionate about road safety still! 🥰

In 1987 the Conservative gvt @PBottomleyMP was the first to set road casualty reduction targets - deaths and serious injuries dropped by 42% In 2000 the Labour gvt @LordWhitty continued with targets - deaths and serious injuries dropped by 39% In 2011 the Coalition gvt @PhilipHammondUK decided we did not need casualty reduction targets - since then deaths have reduced by 2% (this data period includes the pandemic years!) In 2021 the Conservative gvt promised to published a new road safety strategy. No such strategy has been published. No casualty reduction targets. In 2024 we have a #generalelection. Will anyone commit to have a road safety strategy and road casualty reduction targets, and join with 33 road safety organisations led by @PACTS calling for a politicians to take road death and road danger seriously, and take action in 4 areas to save life, reduce disability and save money too? @RishiSunak @Keir_Starmer @EdwardJDavey @LouHaigh @Mark_J_Harper @Wera_Hobhouse @TheGreenParty

@DayoDayo40 @ian_m_greenwood @PBottomleyMP @LordWhitty @Brakecharity @RoadPeace @TowardsZeroFdn @racfoundation @roadvictimstrus @AAPresident @IAMRoadSmart @SafeRoadDesign @ThatchamRsrch @UKROEd A range of things - e.g. police numbers reduced significantly, but so did budgets for research, road safety education, publicity and training etc etc. DfT are running their first seatbelt wearing campaign in 13 YEARS because deaths from not wearing seatbelts have increased...

Not long to wait before these hapless Ministers are either on the bank benches or looking for new jobs. In nearly 30 years of engagement with transport issues I’ve never seen a more useless group of lacklustre politicians @transportgovuk.

@Brick_Cop @metpoliceuk 2/2 ...in that situation. And those situations of struggling with a suspect or being in close quarters with one are still more of a daily occurrence than the sword/chainsaw scenarios. Better holsters now but still around 5% of police shot dead in USA are with the officer's weapon

@Brick_Cop @metpoliceuk 1/2 A colleague says the most scared he ever was in his service was being deployed to calls like pub fights in the 1970's when routinely deployed with a pistol on his hip due to the IRA threat. The thought that someone might grab the gun in the melee and use it on him...

I’ll be honest, someone running at me with a samurai sword, I’d like a Glock. Or, someone chasing me down the road with a chainsaw, I’d also like a Glock. I don’t think that’s a ridiculous proposal and I don’t think it’s an unreasonable expectation anymore. 🤷🏼‍♂️ #ThinBlueLine 🚨

The chameleon tinted windscreen, heavily tinted front windows & tinted/ misrepresented reg plate drew our attention to this BMW. Vehicle prohibited as side windows only transmitted 16% light & windscreen 56% which is far lower than required! #Recovered

@johnelworthy To be precise, £2,000 fine, £2,000 costs and an £800 surcharge (usually referred to as Victim Surcharge). Either way it doesn't add up to £5,800, but if you're picking them up on not getting it right!

Landlord NOT fined £5,800. He was fined £2,000 and £2,800 costs. Your figures are inaccurate and your understanding of court procedures nil. #Newsquest #Fail #again Who writes this crap on my former website??
