When we had our fifth child, we didn’t know our health insurance had been dropped. We got hit with a $30,000 bill and no health insurance.
But because we didn’t have insurance, we got a discount… I ended up paying less than $6000.
That was baffling to me. I had no idea.

This is what I'm actually paying, $2,478 because when you don't have insurance, these hospitals give you a discount. They discounted $22,000 off of this bill” “But if I had insurance, I wouldn't have gotten that discount. So it would've been a $24,000 bill billed to my insurance, and then my insurance would've said, ‘Hey, you have a $5,000 deductible. You need to pay $5,000 for this last emergency room visit.’ Then you tack on the $900 a month that I'd be paying for that insurance. I'd be paying $20K this year for healthcare. So the craziest part about this is even if I have another hospital visit, by the end of this year, I'm still gonna be paying less than I would if I had insurance. @k_ovfefe2 There's definitely been an improvement! You can see it on the ground. Not perfect, still a lot of addiction out there, but people are actually being stopped from bringing drugs into the country and there are arrests of distributers happening.

I always feared death. I can remember thinking of it, the potential nothingness, as young as 10 years old. I had panic attacks over it in middle school.
By high school I deeply immersed myself in bleak existentialist philosophy which led to hedonism, narcissism, and callousness.
I grew out of that feeling at some point, started to value the things that really mattered, and although I never found peace with it, I eventually stopped worrying consciously.
But now I feel almost bulletproof. Immortal in some sense. Because I know even if a cowardly sniper blows my head smoov off in broad daylight, I’ll have the pleasure of haunting every last sorry excuse of a person who mocks my wife for how she honors my legacy.
Not a soul who does such wicked evil will ever have a moment of peace on my watch. Mark my words.
