🇺🇳 During the UN Human Rights Council @UN_HRC 61st session held from 21 Feb to 31 Mar, both the European Union and human rights organization raised the case of #ZhangYadi in different occassions. This marks the first time her case has been brought onto a UN platform, signaling growing international attention. On 3 March, during Item 3 – the Interactive Dialogue with the Special Rapporteur on Torture, Vincent Metten of @SaveTibetOrg , speaking on behalf of the Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights, introduced Zhang Yadi’s case. He noted that she is being held incommunicado, without access to her family or lawyer, and faces a serious risk of torture and ill-treatment. On 16 March, during Item 4 – the General Debate, the European Union @eu_eeas delivered an oral statement and submitted a written statement. Within the statement, the EU named 40 prisoners of conscience in China, including Zhang Yadi, pledging to “closely monitor their situation” and calling on Chinese authorities to “immediately and unconditionally release them.” In response to concerns raised by multiple States and organizations regarding the situation of Tibetans and Uyghurs, the Chinese delegation repeatedly dismissed them as false information driven by political motives. As of now, no response has been given regarding Zhang Yadi’s case.
